WASHINGTON - An Army Ranger who was with Pat Tillman when the former football star died by friendly fire said Tuesday he was told by a higher-up to conceal that information.

"I was ordered not to tell anyone," U.S. Army Spc. Bryan O'Neal told the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform.

He said he was given the order by then-Lt. Col. Jeff Bailey, the battalion commander who oversaw Tillman's platoon.

Pat Tillman's brother Kevin was in a convoy behind his brother when the incident happened, but didn't see it. O'Neal said Bailey told him specifically not to tell Kevin Tillman that the death was friendly fire rather than heroic engagement with the enemy. Bush wanted to make the war popular so they came up with these lies. Bush says this is the American way.

This story is indicative of a lack of honor by the Bush administration and the generals running the war at the Pentagon. To use this story to suggest that "the Army Rangers do not have honor" is truly asinine and offensive. I spent many months working with and training with Army Rangers and they were as honorable as any men I've ever known.

Where would the Marines get hand me down equipment? They are the only force which uses the Harrier, Huey, Cobra, LAV or AAV. They get new F/A 18's, new tanks, new MRAPS, new artillery. They have far more CH-53's than the Navy and Air Force combined. The last time they used major equipment from another branch was Desert Storm. They had crews trained on the Abrams but had not received their new tanks so they borrowed some from the Army. The Marine Corps has about 7% of the forces and get 4% of the total funding while maintaining an air force second to few in the world. They fight on guts and glory, they don't need a lot of funding.

Talk about a moronic statement trying to make it like Bush said to do this.......I am surrounded by idiots! In the military an order is an order! Honor has nothing to do with this, even though you would like to slam the entire Army Ranger for it...gee I wonder what your party affiliation is! Can I guess? I don't believe for one minute that the order that was given was to "cover up" because friendly fire happens all the time, as it was given to spare even more grief of his loved ones....honor and courage and even sympathy (even if it's misplaced) is something that you can't understand!

How come liberal scumbags like your self have no honor? You sit in your parents basement that you call your apartment and cast dispersions on a group of men who sacrifice there lives so you can play on the Internet loser! People do not have the right to know everything that special ops do. I know that comes as a shock to you but you can't know everything! I tell ya what. Go join the military, if you pass basic(lol) try out for the special forces(lmao) .If you pass then you can question the honor of these brave men and women. Until then.....Shut up!!!

May I ask why you feel you need to ask such an insulting and demeaning question about Soldiers and Rangers in particular? As a soldier you agree to follow the orders of those appointed above you. That is your DUTY. To do what you are told to do to the best of your ability even if in doing your best you die. For this you receive a monthly paycheck, and a benefits package that should not inspire anyone to want this job ever. So what is the real reward fordoing you duty, HONOR. Not public acclamation, not rank, not medals, but the recognition in yourself and in those select others whose regard you treasure that you did your best.

Now since you ask this insulting question I find it hard to believe that you have ever experienced this feeling, or for that matter ever known any soldiers who have served together in combat. Should that be the case you have my sympathy and my forgiveness for your ignorance.

Cheers
Hil

An Army Ranger has more honor in one second than you will in your entire life.

Accept it, and move on.

Your posts show the truth about you. That being you are a sad pitiable person who's world view is so jaded and unoriginal. I understand you have no honor and it would seem no pride in anything.

Two words keep coming to mind about you. Pathetic and Coward. Just let me know if you need some money, I'm sure Chavez would love to have you come live in his country. You truly don't belong here.

Of course they have honor. As well as every other service member in uniform. The only people without honor are people like yourself who have nothing better to do than surf the net and ask stupid questions all day.

Why don't you go right up to the next Ranger you see, and ask him that question, Erudite?

I bet they'll find pieces of you in three states, as well as across the border into Canada.

What a pathetic troll you are. Continuing to spin-doctor articles you plagiarize from other sources.

its not that they dont have honor its that they have orders and no matter what those orders are they have to be followed!

one persons mistake does not mean tha all army rangers are the same and Bush is not the one who ordered the cover up, i dont like the man but this is one thing you cant blame on him, the same report that you quoted said he never knew and didnt receive the memo
