Over the years I have heard that. I believe it is wrong now that we have all the information. But I do wonder why her weapon jammed. (Note: In my six years in the military not one of my guns jammed)

I heard that what really happened was that she was driving in a convoy, it came under attack, she didn't stop in time and she crashed into the truck in front of her, killing or at least wounding a couple of her battle buddies. Once in the firefight, due to her lack of attention to detail her weapon jammed. She didn't clean the sand out of her weapon. So she just about panicked and threw her rifle over to her 1st Sergeant. When the enemy came and took her, she just gave up, instead of fighting tooth and nail, she just gave up. That, ladies and gentlemen, is what we call a Blue Falcon. If you're in the Army you'll know what that means.

Don't get me wrong, I think it sucks what they did to her and everything, but she is NO hero. She royally screwed herself and her battle buddies over.

You chickenhawks that question the honor, sense of duty, and patriotism of ANY veteran are simply pathetic.

Even if she didn't hold up well under the circumstances, the fact of the matter remains that she enlisted, she trained she went to Iraq, and she saw fire. It's not her fault that the Republican public relations campaign latched on to her and it backfired on them. Additionally, I've taken my perfectly clean and lubricated M-16 onto the range and it has jammed. It could have been the fault of the weapon, the magazine, or just dumb luck. Possibly a PMCS issue (if you're not in the Army, don't even bother asking as it's not worth explaining the acronym to you) or it could just have been the fact that it wasn't a good day for her M-16. All equipment in Iraq takes a beating, and there isn't always an armorer and small arms repair kit around to do repairs, especially when people are doing 12-14+ hour days, 7 days a week.

No one, even the Soldier who thinks he is the bravest hard charger in the world, knows how he or she will hold up under the stresses of combat. All we can do is our best and serve our country to the best of our ability with the tools and training we are given by God and by our military instructors and drill sergeants.

You folks who are bagging on her, especially you Soldiers, need to go back and take a good hard look at the Army values, to include the one called "Respect".

Was it the fault of Jessica Lynch? Or the fault of the US Army who was at the point off accepting enlistees like her? Was she qualified to be a soldier in any capacity, even a supply specialist? Did she look physically fit to you? Not her fault, the fault of a country where the people have lost their sense of duty and honor, where the strongest and smartest stay away from the army when they should be ready to fight, leaving it to others to be used at the whim of administrations who think soldiers exist for public relations and unjust wars

I have not heard anybody call her "Little Miss Surrender."

I did three years in the military and my M-16s jammed all the time. Two had bent gas tubes that made the charging handles stick and made inspection arms difficult as hell. On the Military.com discussion boards, there was a discussion about this. Nearly everybody complained about the M-16 and the Army's refusal to ditch Colt and go with Hechler & Koch for a better rifle.

You must have been in the Navy where the only weapon you fired was a mop and a bucket of water.

Here's how it happened. They were attacked. Lynch's rifle jammed, she handed it to her SGT, but he was busy fighting and handed it back to her. She threw the rifle down and hid behind a pile of duffel bags.

Yes and since you represent the beginning and end of all things in existence, and your gun didn't jam, by god, her's didn't either. If memory serves, she fired someone else's M-16.

Why ask a question perpetuating the BS, skippy?

Probabilities of guns jamming are low, but still probable. It also increases when you do not keep them clean considering you are in the desert it can happen.

I am so unfamiliar with all of this.

I thought other people thought of her as a hero. I saw her on ABC when Diane Sawyer interviewed her and she seemed genuine.

She was still hurt as a soldier. I don't know about her gun jamming - I was not there, it probably did.

She was a kid, 18, she was probably scared.

Why in the world do you hate her? Why are so many people against her now?

You were never in the military. Reminder: dressing up for you gay friends and lip sinking to Village People does not make you a military member.

Oh, crudites....

Even Bob Hope rotated in some fresh material every once in a while....If you're going to use this site to affirm your lonely little life, you might at least put SOME effort into it.
