When I say off and on, it is mostly on, but at times goes off on its own and then after a restart comes back on. I have had it tested with the code reader and they can not communicate with the air bag module under the passenger seat and when the light is off, they can, but no error codes. Also, I have noticed moisture on that sides carpet, and there is a forum on the wet carpet on here, do you suppose that the moisture is causing a short circuit? Has any one had this same problem an know for sure if it is because of the wet carpet causing the module to short circuit under the passenger seat? I also was researching a recall on a cracked module casing under passenger seat, allowing moisture in..but GM says it does not apply to my VIN number, I dont buy that. Help! Thanks!

YES !! the moisture probably has everything to do with the air bag light. You are right, the module is probably shorting out. If you see some moisture ON the carpet, then there is most definitely A LOT of water under the carpet. The air bag module (SDM) is under the pass. seat, on the floor.
A common cause for a water leak there is a plugged A/C drain, but even more so, a loose weatherstrip under the windshield cowl panel. Similar water leaks cause diffent things on different cars (If I might suggest the Q & A history page from the home page of - greatautohelp.com. It describes this leak and what it has done to a 1998 chevy maibu and how to fix it.
If the dealer says that the recall for the cracked module does not apply, then be asured it does not. Many production changes occur during any given model year. Many recalls and bulletins only apply if they fall within a specific VIN breakpoint. If you like, you can go to our website and give the last 8 positions of your VIN #, and he will check it for you.

you might a problem with the A/C drain line, which might be stopped up of tray out of place..this is located in the dash, on the passenger side..water may be running out and dripping onto or behind the carpet, and the moisture is making the sensor under the passenger seat malfunction..do this get someone to run computer scan and get the history codes..If the light came on..code should be stored in the SRS system.
