I have been taking 50mg of Zoloft for panic attacks/social anxiety for years. I used to get really bad panic attacks, mostly at night. The only way I could get through them was closing my eyes, lying completely still in bed and concentrating on my breathing. Everything seemed to stop a few months ago, the panic feeling and the anxiety I had whenever I went out in public. It was great :) But it didn't last long. The really bad panic attacks seem to be gone but the social anxiety has worsened. I can't go out to eat with my family. Sitting in a restaurant full of people is torture for me. Even going to the grocery store is problematic. If I go there and I don't have my mind focused on a list or something like that, as soon as I enter the place I want to leave. The thoughts I have are always I need to leave, I need to get out of here, I need to get home. That's not normal, I know. I have a dr. app in two months, should I ask him to switch my med? Or just up my dose?

Dont wait two months!! Sometimes this happens, your body will finally learn to tolerate the medicine and you ened to up the dosage to make it effective again. Your body basically becomes immune to it. The need to leave, need to get out is called fight or flight where your adrenaline becomes pumping so much that you're body thinks it either needs to fight for survival or to flight, to remove the danger. For panic attacks, you really need to be able to manage them. One of the most effective techniques is letting the panic attack happen. often, they become a fear of the fear, you fear you will have one at night and actually make it happen. When you start to feel that unpleasant overwhelming feeling, you need to take deep breaths and talk yourself off the cliff is what I say..remind yourself that you know what this is, and that everytime it has passed. I used to have horrific panic attacks, but the key is to work through them. As much as youfeel like you need to lay still, continue doing what your in the middle of doing. It will pass, you will see. You really need to fight through it

Your problem may have gotten worse and your medicine is not helping any longer. On the other hand, your medication may have just stopped helping. Try to get an earlier appointment with your doctor and discuss these things with him. Do not leave until you have a resolution of this problem. Oftentimes doctors want to wait but you have been putting up with this long enough.

Good luck to you.

You need prayer and lots of it. Ask your doctor about changing meds if you don't it could kill you.

Velarian Root (@your health food store) is a good to calm down naturally. I've used it in place of Prozac. I never used the Prozac so changing meds wasn't an option because I didn't want to take it in the first place.

God Bless you and I pray that all is well for you shortly.

I have read some litterature about panic attacks. But they allways seem to have a more scientific approach and that is nothing I need in my struggle to survive those horrible panic attacks. This is a "hand on" and very practical book. I felt it was written to me. I am sure that you are going to feel the same.

Joe Barry writes exactly how I think. The examples are perfectly described. And the method is genius. I recommend this book and thanks Joe Barry for writing it. It changes your life

I take Paxil - And it works wonders for me. However, medication is always going to be different for the individual person. Tell your doctor about everything that's been going on, and ask him what he recommends. If you aren't satisfied with his judgement then go see a specialist. You're going through something that isn't wise to experiment with - Trust in the experts.

Does the doctor treat you for aggoriphobia, as well? Perhaps, he should think about it. If you believe you need to see your doctor about the meds you are on, and can tell him/her as plainly as you have written it here...............exactly how you feel when going anywhere, then, see your doctor as soon as you can. Tell your doctor what you wrote, here....or print it out, and take it to your doctor. I've lived with those fears and they are nearly impossible to describe to anyone who has not felt the feelings.

Tell him all that you listed above. Your doctor will know what to do. It sounds like you have more than just anxiety or depression. You sound like you have psychotic ideations, and your doctor can help with medications directed at certain types of psychoses. If your doctor is not qualified to do that, ask him to refer you to a psychiatrist.

Talk to your Doc. not strangers on yahoo answers.

call your Doc. and see if he can advise you over the phone for now or get you in to his office sooner.
