Well they are both great dogs. Do some research. The dog will be with you for the next 20 years. You could get a nice mix of both too.

For me the deciding factor would probably be whether you are houseproud or not. I am assuming the dog will get appropriate exercise where it can retrieve through woods, water and undergrowth and get generally filthy. The golden would need more cleaning and take longer to dry out.
I have a great black lab who revels in the woods. Because of the waterproof undercoat he tends to dry out pretty quickly (as long as we let him shake rather than towel him - this just pushes the water into his undercoat).
Both dogs have such nice temperaments that they will be great with a family but, like all dogs, they need to know their place. I reckon that labs and retrievers adapt very quickly and are easy to keep in place.
I like the xbreed idea - best of both worlds. Actually we're thinking of a labradoodle next as they have the intelligence of a standard poodle and the loving nature of a lab and are supposed to be great house dogs.

It really depends on what you are looking for. The best dog I ever had was a Golden Retriever/Lab mix, but for your specific situation it may be different. Research the breeds or check with an area rescue coordinator that may be able to help you make a decision.

If well bred, both are wonderful dogs..Because of ill breeding (over breeding) Labradors have tended to become NOT what they are meant to be..So, if you get your dog from a reputable breeder, or where you can actually see the parents of the pup, then you would be as happy with either breed. Labs do require less grooming, but also seem to shed more if not fed the best quality kibble..
As a whole (taking into consideration the over-breeding of Labs) the Golden Retriever has a reputation for being less 'super' active.
If both are well bred dogs, they are equal, hard to beat!

It depends. Labradors are better in heat, whereas goldens arent as OK with it. Goldies tend to be less hyper when littler, but labs are even more playful.
Depends. do some research about the breeds. PS- Labs are notorious for health problems and tend to be a bit pricier, but price shouldnt be the judge. Get both breeds frm a dgood breeder!±

The breed is not going to affect if the dog is better or not, it all depends on the dog itself. That's like saying "if my child is small are they a better child" of course not.
Goldens, and labs have an equal amount of good and bad responses. I have had one of each and it just depended on the dog itself. For instance my pitbull was better then both of them. It had a higher level of loyalty without being too hyper. And it didn't shed. So make sure you ask yourself these.
Do you want such a big dog?
Do you want a dog that sheds?
Do you want a dog from the pound or a breeder?

i had a golden retriver when i was a child and i have 2 labs now....i think theyre both great dogs. Theyre both incredibly loyal and friendly.
The only thing I would say is that labs have shorter hair and do not cast as much

Keep one thing in mind ... A Labrador Retriever and a Golden Retriever are two distinctly different breeds in temperament, behavior and appearance. Check the website of each of the parent clubs for each breed (find the links at www.akc.org), read and learn as much as you can about each breed, then make an educated decision on which dog would best suit your lifestyle. Good luck.

I personally love Goldens. They do shed a lot and have long hair. For me, Labs are usually too hyper. I think with any breed it is going to depend on the dog.
