Okay, my husband and I just bought our first home. The kitchen cabinets are nice, but not exactly what I want. To save money we are just going to use them for now and try to replace them when we have more cash. Anyway over the stove there is a range hood, but the tube goes straight up and there is not cabinet or anything hiding it. All you see is a silver tube running to the ceiling. Any ideas on how to resolve this problem so you can't see this tacky silver tube.

No I can't just put a cabinet over it, because my cabinets do not go all the way to the ceiling.

Any help would be appreciated!!!

A picture would help, but I think I can visualize this situation.

1. You could have a sheet metal fabricator build you a three sided box to cover the round pipe.
To visualize this: Try mocking it up with cardboard to see if you like the look.
A lot depends on your hood shape.

2. Add a new cabinet up to the ceiling. No reason to discard this idea just because your other cabinets don't go to the ceiling. Designers do it all the time to create a focal point.

Matching your existing cabinets might be tricky. But you could really create a focal point by painting the new cabinet an accent color, or staining it darker or lighter than adjacent cabinets. Mixing and matching woods and finishes also is a strong trend with designers.

To "try this idea on for size", just mock it up with cardboard or poster board, painted in the color or stain you have in mind.

You can have a cabinet built that has a "pipe chase" in the back so that you won't have to remove and reinstall the vent pipe to put it in.
Careful measuring and a little crown moulding around the top and viola! Problem solved.

So there's nothing on top of the fan except the exhaust pipe and the area above the cabinet is open as well? Swell.

Do you have a decorating theme? If not, it's time for one. Maybe you can find collectables in your "theme" and put them atop the cabinets and the fan. Like what?? Early kitchen tools and accessories including old tin boxes (or replicas), nautical theme if you live next to the ocean, yeah, I'm running short of ideas as well. Anything high in the kitchen will catch grease and need to be cleaned, so make them easily cleaned. Something that comes into mind is a "packing house" theme with posters for tomatoes, wooden produce boxes, etc.

Or you could just paint the tube the same color as the wall and try to ignore it......LOL.

That's a good question, best thing to go to Home Depot and order a hood cabinet that will fit to the range hood measure your width of your hood and height and take theme to Home depot and tell theme that you're looking for a hood cabinet to cover your hood range, also make sure what kind of wood your kitchen has and color so when you get your hood cabinet the cabinet matches with the kitchen color and wood. It's kind of complicated to cover the silver tube but this would be one of my ideas. Hope it helps you if not well their would be more answer to your question. Good luck!

That is a good one. Since you do not have a cabinet up there, why not sit things on the stove hood. You could run vines up the vent to help disguise it (silk, etc). I am researching this for you and will let you know if I find anything.
