When will civilians ever learn? He was in a combat theater of war, in combat. It doesn't matter how he was killed, he was killed serving his country and that is ALL that matters. I can't believe his family who supposedly grieves his loss is doing this. As far as I'm concerned, they are spitting on his name and on all the fallen soldiers that have paid the ultimate sacrifice over there.

Did he do anything valiant enough to warrant a Silver Star? I mean, being killed by friendly fire is hardly grounds for a Silver Star alone. You have to engage the enemy for that one, so, why did he get that? Does anyone have the actual award write up for that, the citation I mean?

It is a good question actually.

Be careful when ye seek the truth, for only dirt shall ye find - trust me.

A lot of medals are awarded based on politics anyway, most people I know that got stars won't talk about them or don't even think they deserve them.

I think Pat Tillman made a moral choice, and he died doing what he believed was right - and I think he would be furious to see his family behaving like this publically. I think if they inquired privately, and didn't also try to capitalize on their son's death, they would have received their answers - the truth with all the dirt attached - but now they have just made a spectacle of his honor and name. I also think he would have been furious about being used as a publicity stunt after he died to drum up support for the war etc. However, if you watched Flags of Our Fathers, you understand that propoganda is necessary at times - and just what the hell do you think our so called media is doing now? They are using this propaganda to discredit the war. Which one do you think serves the greater good? That is what National Security is all about folks.

Since when does being killed by friendly fire warrant you the silver star?

Don't get me wrong, but that's kind of retarded. That's like calling Jessica Lynch a hero. They are trying to glamorize the situation. Both were in the wrong place at the wrong time. They were labeled heroes for nothing.

However, for some reason there are countless soldiers and Marines going WAY beyond the call of duty every day. Are they given silver stars? Bronze Stars? Anything? No. They are doing their job. That is what we do.

I think it is all ridiculous.

The same things they did today. He was awarded the silver star and there should be NO cover up or lie about how a soldier dies in combat. There is no excuse for it. How would you like it to hear you son/daughter died in a vehicle accident, yet when you get an autopsy report a year later, you see proof that they died from gunshot wounds not an accident? At least someone there took up the cause of other soldiers' families and highlighted the mockery that is being made of their loss of life to promote propoganda here.

But that is not what happened. What happened was is they lost a loved one by stupid military mistake and then the military covered it up. They are angry and rightly so.
Recently I read an article about a young African American Female private first class who was said to have killed herself but when family received body it was obvious that she had been beaten by bruises and tooth loss. I think there was evidence of rape as well. Her family says no way suicide but government continues to say so. Maybe she was raped and beaten and killed herself but it is clear they need to investigate. Pat Tillman's mother was right when she said I wonder how people without any financial means find out anything? Cover ups are wrong. When Clinton covered up his affair after being caught is wrong and ultimately lost his parties bid for the white house and when they cover up about death like with Tillman it is even more wrong.

Are you saying Tillman coming home ALIVE or DEAD as the most decorated soldier in history?

The fact of the matter is, W. Bush shamelessly used Tillman's death to whip up support for the war.

Why would you say that? He would still be dead, and killed by "supposedly " "friendly fire". So what would they be saying then? That was really an asinine question don't you think?

What does this have to do with the fact that the government has consistantly lied about how he died?

His family lost him. They are entitled to say what they want.
