different opinions but no one really knows for sure. How can you know if you've comitted it or not if you can't even know what it is? Surely something as important to your eternal fate should be stated clearly as to its nature.

what is it?

The unforgivable sin, Jesus clearly stated, was "blasphemy of the Holy Spirit." In context, Jesus was responding to the religious leaders of the day that had accused him of performing miracles by demonic power. He told them that any other sin committed on earth would be forgiven except that one, which would not be forgiven in this life, or in the life to come. A Christian cannot commit this sin, because the Spirit proclaims Christ to be the Son of God, the saviour of the world. Christians believe this, and therefore are not calling the Spirit a liar, blaspheming Him. Only an outright renunciation of Christ would then be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. To go to your death rejecting the Spirit's testimony of the gospel of Jesus Christ is to blaspheme the Holy Spirit, thereby sealing your doom. It will not be forgiven, and you will be lost forever with no possible recourse.

The only unforgivable sin...blasphemy against the Holy Spirit... That is not an answer that is going to go over well here.. but you asked. That is unbelief. The denial of of God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. When you believe in God and eccept Christ as your savior and the forgiveness of your sins the Holy Spirit enters into you through Christ. That's a sin you can commit only before you have been saved not after. I know alot of people have a problem with that term, i did too once. but who cares wha tit's called and the truth is we are not just saved from our sins we are saved from ourselves and our egos that tell us we don't need a God.

The only sin that cannot be forgiven is the known sin that has not been confessed. If we beat back the promptings of the Holy Spirit and trample on God's mercy then how can God cleanse us from our sin? God does not work with forcing the conscience. Only by freewill does He want us to come to Him. Freedom to choose allows us to love, for love is a choice, a principal, not a feeling. Once we have warred against the Holy Spirit trying to convict us for so long the conscience becomes seered, and we are beyond the point by which even God can redeem us. This is unpardonable, not because of God's choosing, but from our own choices.

Jesus wasn't at all hazy about it. He said that God will forgive blasphemy against the Father and the Son, but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit wll never be forgiven. Mark 3:29, Luke 12:10

Actually, the Bible is very clear:

"And everyone who speaks a word against the Son of Man will be forgiven, but anyone who blasphemes against the Holy Spirit will not be forgiven." (Luke 12:10 (see also Matthew 12:32 and Mark 3:29)

Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is to reject His grace. Not allowing the Holy Spirit to work in our lives is blasphemy: It is saying "I know more than God does about what is right for me" which takes away the principle which makes it possible to ask for forgiveness.

all sins are forgiven but blasphemy against the Holy Spirit

the best way to know is to read that passage in Greek. The word "blasphemy" there has a continual verb tense. One must understand that word 'blasphemy' to refer to a continual state of slander toward the Holy Spirit. Slander is a form of rejection (you don't bad-mouth what you like). So by constantly slandering the Holy Spirit, you "push Him further away" and you no longer hear His call (no man comes unto the Father unless the Spirit calls Him). So if you no longer hear His call to repentance through Christ, you reject Christ, and don't make it to Heaven. If you're unrepentant, then obviously you don't really care if you're forgiven or not, or you're just trying to abuse God's privalege.

There is only one unpardonable sin and that is to Blaspheme the name of the Holy Spirit.
All other sins, even Blaspheming God's name and Jesus' name will be forgiven if you not only confess, but also repent (turn away) from your sins and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and Lord.
Don't just take my word for it, read your bible and you will find the answers there.

Jesus said: “Every sort of sin and blasphemy [abusive speech; slander; impious word] will be forgiven men, but the blasphemy against the spirit will not be forgiven. For example, whoever speaks a word against the Son of man, it will be forgiven him; but whoever speaks against the holy spirit, it will not be forgiven him." - Matthew 12:31

Even the Apostle Paul said:
"formerly I was a blasphemer and a persecutor and an insolent man. Nevertheless, I was shown mercy, because I was ignorant and acted with a lack of faith." - 1Timothy 1:13

Simply blaspheming isn't unforgivable but blasphemy against the holy spirit is.

Persons who with full knowledge deliberately oppose God and Christ, hide the truth and propagate falsehoods make themselves guilty of sinning against God’s spirit—a sin that cannot be forgiven.

JOHNNO Here it is EXACTLY but you have to take time to read this. In the end times satan will be on earth pretending to be Jesus / God. And he will put on such a show that almost all will be deceived by him. But there are a few of God's special people ( His elect) living at that time. Their job is to wittiness against satan when they are brought before him. These elect are told by God NOT to premeditate what they will say when brought up before satans synagogue because the holy spirit will put in their minds what to say in that hour (mark,13: 11). But if they refuse to say what the holy spirit has put in their minds (and it will be irrefutable) but instead says something else then this is the blaspheming the Holy spirit . It is said that it will not be forgiven in this world or the world to come. So this particular blaspheming can only happen when satan is on earth claiming to be God / Jesus , and can only be committed by God's elect. NOW IS THIS CLEAR ENOUGH FOR YOU? LOL

Its clear - God forgives anyone of any sin. The "unforgivable sin" is really us rejecting God. We blaspheme the Holy Spirit when we refuse to accept the gift of life from God (the acceptance leads to the Holy Spirit dwelling in us).

Thus, we are the ones rejecting God. We are unforgiven if we blaspheme the Spirit because we choose to not be forgiven.

It's extremely clear.
