Both work well but HDMI according to most sources is BEST. "The digital market is now swinging towards the HDMI interface for high-definition media delivery, and DVI is being again constrained to the computer market."
From http://www.hdmi.org/consumer/faq.asp
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) is the first and only industry-supported, uncompressed, all-digital audio/video interface. By delivering crystal-clear, all-digital audio and video via a single cable, HDMI dramatically simplifies cabling and helps provide consumers with the highest-quality home theater experience. HDMI provides an interface between any audio/video source, such as a set-top box, DVD player, or A/V receiver and an audio and/or video monitor, such as a digital television (DTV), over a single cable.

DVI stands for (D)igital (V)ideo (I)nterface.
DVI is a popular form of video interface technology made to maximize the quality of flat panel LCD monitors and modern video graphics cards. It is a replacement for the P&D Plug & Display standard, and a step up from the digital-only DFP format for older flat panels. DVI cables are becoming increasingly popular with video card manufacturers, and most cards nowadays include both a VGA and a DVI output port.
In addition to being used as the standard computer interface, the DVI standard was, for a short while, the digital transfer method of choice for HDTV, EDTV, Plasma Display, and other ultra-high-end video displays for TV, movies, and DVDs. Likewise, even a few top-end DVD players have featured DVI outputs in addition to the high-quality analog Component Video. The digital market is now swinging towards the HDMI interface for high-definition media delivery, and DVI is being again constrained to the computer market.
From me..
You don't have to spend a fortune for an HDMI cable do a web search and you can find one for a very resonable price.

DVI and HDMI produce the same video. The difference is HDMI connections have the sound too, where with DVI you have to run seperate cables for the audio.

Many 1080p TVs cannot accept 1080p as input. TV sources for 1080p are very limited (blu-ray mainly). The TV converts 1080i input to 1080p for display.

Trust me they are created equal. If 1080 is the highest resolution your T.V produces, you will receive it even if you use componet cables as long as your receiving a 1080 signal no matter the source.
