Because by commiting this type of blasphemy the person is rejecting God's grace and forgiveness.

God does not force a person to be forgiven.

So if a person rejects the power of God to forgive then God "can't" by definition forgive them. This would be a great victory for Satan - to convince a person that their sin is so great God couldn't forgive them. The person despairs and then blasphemes against God and denies God's power to forgive.

The quote is more exactly "to grieve the Holy Spirit." Literally this describes an apostate: someone who once accepted Christ via the Spirit and then turned away. To know the trusth of Christ and then deny Him is unforgiveable - until, like the prodigal son, that person turns back to God.

To blaspheme God is to reject Him. When we blaspheme the Holy Spirit, we are rejecting the Holy Spirit. Since the Holy Spirit comes to us after we accept Jesus as our LORD and Savior, we are in fact rejecting Jesus' gift of life.

In reality, every sin can be forgiven. But if we don't want to be forgiven (if we reject His gift), we won't be forgiven. Its called free will.

Blapheming the Holy Ghost is rejection of Jesus as your Saviour. You do not acknowledge Him and at God's decision, you will no longer be acknowledged by God. Your heart will be hardened, and God remembers you no more. Its a serious sin, thats why Jesus spoke on it.
