Salvation is in Christ
2 Timothy 2:10Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
Ephesians 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,
Romans 5
2through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
If baptism is not necessary, then the Bible is a lie.
If baptism doesn't save, then this verse below lies:
1 Peter 3:21There is also an antitype which now saves us--baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
Baptism alone doesn't save. You must also have belief (Rom 10:17, Jn5:18, Jn8:24), repentance(Acts 2:38, Matt21:28-29), confession(Rom 10:9-10), and obedience(Rev2:10, Heb 5:9).
Salvation is in Christ and baptism is how you put on Christ, get in Christ.
Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ.
Mark 16
16He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
Acts 22
16And now why are you waiting? Arise and be baptized, and wash away your sins, calling on the name of the Lord.'
Acts 2:38Then Peter said to them, "Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
Romans 6
3Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? 4Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.
5For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection,
Colossians 2
12buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead.
1 Corinthians 12:13For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body--whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free--and have all been made to drink into[1] one Spirit.
Some objections addressed:
Babies and those without the mental capacity to believe, understand sin, repent, and obey go to heaven. Infants aren't sinners-Isa. 7:15; Mt. 18:3; 1 Cor. 14:20. And even if you thought they were sinful from birth, they couldn't be baptized until they believed and repented (see above references)!
Thief on the cross. He died before Jesus died and was resurrected, so they were still under the old covenant. Jesus told him he'd be in Paradise, so that's that. We have the new covenant today, we have the whole message, and it is up to us to obey it.
Some say there are verses that say just believe and you are saved, just call on His name. This is true, but it doesn't negate the ones about baptism. You have to take the Bible as a whole, not just pick the ones you want to do. There ARE verses about belief and callingon His name and I believe you must do those, but He also included verses on baptism and those are meant to be followed as well!

Great question Raquel. And an important one.
Rather than listen to all the personal opinions I would suggest you just turn to Acts Chapter 2 and read verse 38 and 39. That is the New Testament salvation plan that Peter preached on the Day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost was first given to all those who had faithfully followed Jesus right up to His transformation, including His mother Mary. This was only a few weeks after the crucifixion. In fact, this was the very first time the New Testament salvation plan was ever preached. Read these scriptures and then you can decide. God's word does not change as you know. What was truth then is truth now. And this is absolutely real. You can receive this just as they did then.
I have to say that "tcdrtw" absolutely nailed this answer. S/he has quoted the key scriptures that make it clear what is required. God does not leave salvation open for interpretation or opinion. He made it crystal clear in the scriptures. Those who would disagree with the Word of God must be quite confused. God is not the author of confusion.

In the New Testament, all examples of salvation after Christ's resurrection are where the person had been baptized. If you are asking about baptizing a dead person (I don't think you are, but just in case), the dead person cannot fulfill the other steps required for salvation - belief, repentance, confession, etc. So baptizing a dead person is useless for salvation. In addition, baptizing someone who cannot fulfill the other requirements for salvation is also useless. For example, a small child does not know the difference between right and wrong. Therefore, he cannot be held accountable for his choice of actions, including baptism.
Baptism removes the barrier of sins between people and God. With this barrier still in place, we have no hope of heaven. It is only when we put on the righteousness of Christ through baptism that we can enter heaven through God's grace alone. Since Christ's blood continually cleanses those who have been added to His church (through baptism), this is the only way we can be clean enough to enter heaven. On our own, we cannot make it, no matter how good of a person we are, because we are still sinners. Christ's blood cleanses us of all sin so we can stand before the presence of God.
Hope this helps.

What evidence do you have have been on condition that the thief on the go was now not baptized? The bible does not element out the perceive of each and every guy or woman that became into baptized, and it interior of reason achievable that the thief on the go became into quite a baptized Christian. in basic terms like in the present day, there are prisons across the worldwide, crammed with Christians that have made errors in life, the thief on the flow might incredibly without subject have been a baptized Christian that throughout his weak point stole a loaf of bread or some money. properly that Jesus became into waiting to promise that the thief could be with him in paradise skill that the thief have been before baptized, yet as a results of fact he had stolen some thing he mandatory to repent, in basic terms as any Christian in the present day that commits sin might have have been given to repent. The gospel of Mark needless to say states, "He that believeth and is baptized may be saved"

Baptism is an outward sign of an inward committment. It doesn't "save" anyone. Salvation( or going to heaven) only comes from an acceptance of Christ's sacrifice for one's own personal sin. (John 3:3, 3:16-18, Eph. 2:8-9). God judges the heart of man, not his outward deeds. So if a person has not accepted that sacrifice and gets baptized, they just get wet. If they have accepted that sacrifice, they are going to heaven no matter what...according to the Bible.

What qualifies a person to enter the highest level of heaven upon his resurrection is to be baptized while in mortality before he dies. The ordinance must also be performed by the authorized priesthood of God.
Vicarious baptisms in the temples of God are performed by proper requisite authority for those having left mortality that did not have the opportunity to be baptized.

You are as close to heaven as you are going to get. When you die that is it. It does not matter if you are baptized or not. I was as a child but do not believe in an afterlife so I will give my baptism to you.

I have clear memory going back to being in the womb, and entering the womb as a soul during the act of conception, as well as before my life on Earth even began. I can tell you quite certainly from my personal awareness of the unseen reality that all souls come from Heaven before they are born on Earth, and that is where they will return to, because that is the natural home of the soul. The purpose and meaning of the Baptism ritual has been distorted by religion, and it is not require for one to enter heaven. This is a superstition that persists as a remanent of a darker age.

When you die, your soul is seperated from your body already. So to baptize a dead body is worthless. Plus baptizing is a public profession of accepting Christ. It won't get you into heaven after you are dead, sorry.
