Karma is usually associated with Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism. But it can also be found in at least some sense in other religions as well, as the idea of "you reap what you sow."
Karma is basically a rule of cause and effect. If you do anything, it will have consequences. What you do that is good will have good consequences, and what you do that is bad will have bad consequences. The consequences must be lived out one way or the other, if not in this life, then in another life. There are ways to break the chain of karma, such as loving devotion to God, or by living altruistically (that is, without desire for reward or desire to avoid punishment - you just do what is right, not for any reward).

It's associated with Hinduism and Buddhism, specifically, however the philosophy has roots in religious history.
Karma, from a Buddhist perspective, since I'm Buddhist, is basically "cause and effect". Thoughts and actions plant a "seed" in your mindstream that, when the right causes and conditions arise for that seed to ripen arises you will reap the effects. In Buddhism, the effects are not immediate, but rather pop up later, somewhere in your mindstream.
Buddhism's approach to it is to understand that reacting to what we perceive as "unpleasant" in life or "suffering" is a result of some bad karma we're reaping, and how we react to it determines whether we put a stop to it or not. If we meet perceived "bad results" with compassion (for ourselves and others), wisdom and understanding of what caused it and patience, not reacting to it with aversion or attachment AND virtuous activity (speech and thought) then you can eventually pull the runaway horse of cyclical suffering to a "halt".
This is a very basic interpretation. For better and more lengthy discussion, research at buddhanet.net and other Buddhist websites for more insight.

~~~ Happy ,,,, Karma is the Divine Law of Cause and Effect, in regard to your Personal Accountability,,, Which is that for every Action you take, you are accountable. Whether you decide to act in a positive or negative way will dictate whether you will have a neg. or pos. "judgement" for that particular action. When one dies and returns to the Ethereal Plane then one has their Judgement Day, so to speak. You will have a Bank Account of Karma which tallied all your Positives and Negatives. Note: One Positive and One Negative do not cancel each other out to make a "score of zero" or "make it even". Each Karmic Act stands alone and must be held accountable. Don't lose sight of the fact that you are also "rewarded" for Good Deeds. When one is ready to Incarnate into a new Lifetime of Human Experience your Karmic Score is figured into The Dharma or Destiny Aspect. (also note that Dharma can be flexible, but firm, when one exercises one's gift of Freewill)
