Why is the pope called "Our Lord God the Pope?"

Also: "Holy Father" and "God?"

Isn't this Blasphemy? And, don't say that he isn't called this, because he is called such in the Roman Canon Law, also called so by Father A. Pereira, and also by Pope Nicholas I.

It isn't denied by either the Pope or the Catholic Church itself, and is disturbing to say the least.

BTW: "Holy Father" is used only ONCE in the ENTIRE BIBLE, and that is in John 17:11 when Jesus was praying to God the Father and He said:
"And now I am no more in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to thee. Holy Father, keep through thine own name those whom thou hast given me, that they may be one, as we are."

Don't you think this is blasphemous? How can you reconcile this?

To Stanbo and Max Marie:

He IS INDEED called such. Check out the Roman Canon Law.

>Our Lord God the Pope
"To believe that our Lord God the Pope has not the power to decree as he is decreed, is to be deemed heretical."
In the Gloss "Extravagantes" of Pope John XXII *** inter, Tit. XIV, Cap. IV. Ad Callem Sexti Decretalium, Paris, 1685.

>Lord God the Pope (by Father A. Pereira)
"It is quite certain that Popes have never approved or rejected this title 'Lord God the Pope,' for the passage in the gloss referred to appears in the edition of the Canon Law published in Rome in 1580 by Gregory XIII."

>The Pope and God the Same
Writers on the Canon Law say, "The Pope and God are the same, so he has all power in heaven and earth."
--Barclay Cap. XXVII, p. 218. Cities Petrus Bertrandus, Pius V. -- Cardinal Cusa supports his statement.

Want more? I can easily find them.

Again, How can you reconcile this?

To Connie D:

You are correct, and God Bless!

I have friends that used to be Catholics, but they left when they found out that Mass, Purgatory, Infant Baptism, Salvation by Works, Mary as an intersessor, etc. etc were NOT in the Bible anywhere.

I only wish that others would see this.
I am not trying to get people to go the Baptist way, but rather the Bible way!

this is going to upset some people and i apoligize before hand but at least take heart i was raised catholic so at least i'm not talking out my hat,ok. Yes that is blasphemy. There is only one Lord God. The catholic faith believes that the pope is God on earth that what he says comes straight from the mouth of God. If the pope says no then it's no from God. I was in the catholic church from until i was a teenager. I was never taught the Bible per say i was taught the catholic faith. i heard things that i knew could not possibly come from a God who loves. unlike some, i did not through out the baby with the bath water. i searched through a lot of things to be where i am today. God didn't abandon me because He new my heart was seeking Him and the truth.

Okay this is for the third time today, the titles of the Pope are as follows; Successor of the Prince of the Apostles, Vicar of Christ, Bishop of Rome, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal church, Servant of the Servants of God,Patriarch of the West,Primate of Italy,Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province,Sovereign of the State of Vatican city.
Unofficially he is sometimes called Rector of the World,,and Pontifex Maximus.

Now apart from these there are no other titles used by the Pope or the Catholic church, Our Lord God the Pope is not a title of the Pope, no matter what you say friend.

The pope has never EVER been called God. Nor has he been called lord god pope.

response:
Sorry honey. You did not copy those snippets from canon law. You copied them from bogus anti-Catholic websites.

I've posted a few of those anti-Catholic sites below. They are full of lies. Isn't that one of THE big 10?

From the KJV:
Exodus 20:16 Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbor.

If you were quoting actual canon law, it would have a number by it. Just like the Catechism.

Such as this. THIS is canon law:

Can. 330 Just as, by the decree of the Lord, Saint Peter and the rest of the Apostles form one College, so for a like reason the Roman Pontiff, the successor of Peter, and the Bishops, the successors of the Apostles, are united together in one.

Hmmm, what did we just call him? Roman Pontiff. What does Pontiff mean? HEAD OF THE CHURCH.

Yeah, not in the eyes of the Catholics, but in the eyes of other Christians YES! god was referred to as those same things as the Pope, so its as if they are elevating him to God's status, which is almost idol worship, something that the Bible says is wrong a million times in the OT.

The Pope does not call himself "Lord God the Pope." (I've never even heard this accusation before)

One of the Pope's favorite titles is "Servant of the Servants of God." Here is an example from the Vatican website: http://www.vatican.va/holy_father/john_p...

God bless,
Stanbo
