Someone, and I don't know who, put more transmission fluid in my car then I needed. Now my car will switch gears, but slowly. I was told by CarX that I needed a whole new transmission, but this man told me that it could just be a transmission sensor. Does he know what he is talking about, and if so how do I explain to my personal mechanic how to fix it?

first of all, have you check the fluid level to make sure it is correct? and when is the last time you had the transmission serviced? If the transmission takes longer to change gears, then you might have a bad VSS..but let me ask you this..If you manually shift the gears, starting off in 1 and then moving shifter to 2, does tranny still slip? IM me back..need more information. gotspeed7883@yahoo.com

depending on what transmission you have like is it a three speed automatic it will be the Th125c or the over drive it will be the 4T60 series. the one thing that should be corrected now is the fluid level. as far as needing a new transmission I doubt it. the most likely cause for slow shifting could be the detent cable from the transmission to the throttle body out of adjustment. on the overdrive units the speed sensor will also affect the shift timing due to the fact that the unit is mostly electronically controlled. hope this helps a little bit.

Overfilling can cause some problems, the worst of is leaks.

Putting the WRONG type in can damage the seals and clutches.

Your personal mechanic, if he or she is a qualified transmission specialist should find and fix the problem.

When explaining a problem to the mechanic, tell the facts, and let them figure out what is wrong. If you don't trust your mechanic to figure it out, you need to see a mechanic that you trust.

You can tell them what the total stranger who thinks he knows about transmissions said.

You would not go to a doctor and say "This stranger I met said I have the creeping crud"...

stand in front of the grand prix, look down to the right at the back of the egine. this should be the trans. there should be a small cylinder shaped tank sticking out with a vacuum hose coming out of the top. this is called a vauum modulator, it can be the cause of slow shifts and no shifts at all. if the modullator is not there, your trans is electronic. Then the only other thing you can do is change the fluid and screen in the trans.
