Why are there so much donations to the Catholic Church?

They take in millions of dollars and pay any taxes on it. The Churches in Europe especially at the Vatican is so 'richly' built. Why does it seem like the Catholic church has enough money to at least eliminate hunger in one country? And do they do it? Nope...

anybody remember one guy who donated like 30 billion or something to charity? He was on the news about 2..3 months ago. He donated about like 70% of his wealth.

Why limit it to the Catholics? Lots of other denominations have tithing and rake in those tax free donations.

Church donations go to feed the hungry, cloth the naked, educate the impoverished and so on.

The Holy See, and many of the other massive cathedrals were not build with church money - but by the donations of rich people.

For instance the Basilica of Mary Magdalene in France is MASSIVE. It was being built by the king of the time but a war came - funds were needed elsewhere. So the basilica was never "finished." It's complete now.

The pope himself owns nothing. He sleeps in a twin bed in the corner of his apartment. I can't imagine Pat Robertson giving up his wealth and sleeping in the corner.

God bless whomever donated 70% of his wealth. It is an embarrassment to this nation that Sandra Bullock donated more to Katrina Relief than our own goverment.

PS: Dear Happy Kid - 1/3 of the world is NOT Catholic. There are 6 billion people in this world. 1 billion of them are Catholic. Half of those live in impoverished places. Africa and South America. They need our donations.

This is true for most religions.

Religion is about proliferating a belief system, not about helping the poor or needy. They all talk about it, but in reality a VERY small percentage of offerings go towards helping people.

There are 2.1 Billion Christians in the world. If each of them gave $1 per week that went directly towards the poor, there would be $109 Billion dollars going towards fighting poverty. This just isn't happening. If you are a Christian and give money to church, it should be a priority to determine exactly where that money ends up.

If Christians went through this exercise, they would be horrified to learn that less than 3% of their offerings actually go towards helping people. The rest goes towards building upkeep, realestate, ministers salaries and denominational spending.

Money given in church is no different than money given to a country club, it all goes towards building and ground upkeep so that members can enjoy their time there. It is a shame and Christians should be ashamed of their denominations for talking about the help provided to the community, when in reality there is little to non provided. It is your right as a member to look through the treasury books of your local church. Doing so will make you sick.

Because like 1/3 of the world is Catholic. They should eliminate world hunger. They do have enough money.


Although on the churches part- they were built a while ago. It's not like that's going to help people now. And I think the Catholics have always considered that they need to make a place to worship God as beautiful as possible.

Ok where I come from the money is used properly in our Catholic church. Our priest drivees a mazda not a caddy . The money that goes into our church goes to alot of things like money for the church, for donations, for the poor, for the priests, etc..... It is used correctly. o btw and hollywood is filled with enough money to end the hunger.!!!!!!!!!! they don't hand out much.

hillary clinton, i believe will start the boycott to cause all churches to unite with the WCC. If they don't they will close the doors of that church.

the RCC denies that they are part of the WCC but read their language and terminology. it is nothing but rome in disguise. they even have another evil, rotten religious structure as their governing body known as the vatican 2 which sits in new york city.

it is also like nimrod that united the whole world around that evil structure known as the tower of babel(modern day vatican and vatican 2-the beast and it's image)
