I have been eating a flapjack for breakfast. It is basically a bar made out of rolled oats. How healthy is it?

i've never had one or even seen one but from what i'm hearing...rolled oats is a good sign at least! however you should read the ingredient list. the ingredients are listed in order of highest to lowest so in a healthy flapjack the first several ingredients should be the oats or grains...(whatever grain/oat-like substances they might use in them...again not sure because i've never seen one.) you should then double check the ingredients for 2 things: any kind of hydrogenated fat or oil and also high fructose corn syrup. its a good to avoid foods that use these things at all costs. check the number of grams of sugar and if its around 5gs (+2/-2g) thats fine. also check for grams of transfat...you want to avoid this also!! saturated fats aren't good either but ok in small doses.

Depends on what else is in it. What holds it together? Rolled oats are great for fiber and iron, but they aren't especially high in some essential nutrients. And it could have a lot of fat or sugar in it. Is this a commercial product? Doesn't it have nutritional information on the label? (Or don't they do that in the UK?)

That's alot like the breakfast bars here. And yes, they are quite healthy. They are full of fiber and low on saturated fat. Someobrands are filled with real fruit filling so they also provide essential vitamins.

yes, they are as long as you eat them without syrup on them.usually if you eat them with fresh fruit instead..

or lightly syruped enough to cover the flapjack

Oats are very good for you. Not only does it fill you up well but it is healthy for your heart (can lower cholesterol) and helps your digestive track.
