I have a long haired Chihuahua and when I let him outside to play, he can get soooo dirty, especially when it has been raining. He loves his play time. Some say that they should only be bathed once a month, but I don't think I could wait that long between baths. Also, what is the best shampoo? I hear many people say baby shampoo, but I am not sure.

You can bathe her rather often if her skin doesn’t dry out. Get a good moisturizing shampoo. Watch her for signs that she is getting too dry. Flaky skin or itching. You can use baby wipes to wipe off some of the dirt and her feet if she doesn’t need a full bath. You can also buy some towelettes that are made for dogs and are used as a quick dry bath.
When my Boston was a baby she would roll in anything that stunk, and even watching her close she’d still find stuff. I had to bathe her often, and as long as I used something really gentle and moisturizing she was fine.

Typically smaller dogs can be bathed more than larger ones.
While I bathe my current dog (large breed) once a month, I always bathed my chihuahua once a week-she never had a shampoo/bath related issue. Just keep an eye out for dry skin or any other changes and you should be fine doing it more frequently.

I have a pomeranian and she gets a bath once every two weeks if not more. I use to groom dogs so I might can help you out. Go to a grooming salon or a pet store. There are clarifying shampoos that you can use once a week that won't dry out their skin. Baby shampoo is okay but probably not if your going to bathe regularly. You might also try a light conditioner if his hair tends to tangle too.
Well, I hope this helps.

My weim gets a bath about once a month, or more if she's especially dirty. She has very short hair though. I use a good dog shampoo with skin moisturizer (because her skin gets dry and flaky after a bath).

My dogs get bathed once or twice a week, more if it's wet outside. I use a special protien shampoo that makes them smell great and works up a shine. I can't remember the brand, but I'll be sure to tell you when I remember.

I bathe my 15 week old Sheltie once a week and I use Johnson's No More Tears Baby Shampoo. It works great and doesn't hurt her eyes at all. The breeder I got her from recommended it, and she seems to know what she's talking about :)

I have three dogs. The only one that gets a bath frequently is my Pitt who has allergies. If she gets to itching she gets a bath with medicated shampoo. The other two never get bathed because they are indoor dogs and never get smelly. The only time you need to give a dog a bath is if they get to smell and you don't like it, they don't care.

Once a month. Unless they get exceptionally dirty for some reason. Ask you vet about what type of shampoo to use based on your breed of dog. Some are more drying etc. than others..and you are exchanging one problem (dirty) for another (dry skin)...so ask him/her which is recommended. Good Luck

I had a chihuahua his name was bently and usually if its not raining outside and bently got dirty I would take a brush and I would take him outside and brush all the dirt off of him, but I've heard that its good to give your dog baths often.
