There are 3 reasons behind this, and any of them can make the web application slow.
1. Ur internet connection is slow;
2. Website conneted to that web application is having some problem, making the server reply late.
3. Another possible reason can be ur computer's hardware, if the hardware is not compatible with that application. The application will have problem now-or-then.

Great. It's related to programming standard and resource utilisation directly propositional to scalability and performance.
if the same web application more than one users accessing on the web load goes to the web server. you need to think about tuning the Web server and database layer first.

Client part tuning.

You can check your bandwidth of your network and Cache of browser setting . if you increase cache in browser setting. the images stores in to locally . if access the same site next time. all images are served from cache . it gives something faster .

Apart from other factors mentioned here already, one major factor to consider is, if the website in question is an "Ad-Intensive" website..

Also - if the website is trying to use your bandwidth and processing power to to do some thing that you don't intend to be party to....like using your PC and network to help share a file some one else is downloading.

Last but not the least - did some website already install a "parasitic" code in your PC that is causing this?

Hope this helps.

If you're on a dialup connection (like me), tough luck! Lots of graphics, maybe. (Go to www.verizon.com, for example, and ...groan...)

Reasons vary, all having to do, in my opinion, ultimately, with very poorly written websites: too many graphics trying to load too soon, too many "tables" being used for layouts, too much interactive content behind the scene, and other web stuff (if you're not a webmaster, you may not care to hear about it...except to know, it's none of your fault, it's just an inconsiderate page developer or development team...)

It depends upon the data transfer rate. If it is 56 k then it will be poor. If it is a high speed internet then the transfer rate will be more
