The dream may have stemmed from programmed Christian guilt.

I've had plenty of nightmares dealing with demons. It is NO joke! So ok you had a dream about becoming a Christian. What? You think your dream might meen nothing? You're not alone with having serious dreams. That could had been from God. He is not limited to where He works. You don't have to be in church or even believe in Him to have dreams like that. He is not limited. Whether you are an Athiest or not, you have to be real with God. The BEST thing for you to do is ask God why you had that dream. Because for all you know that could had been the enemy messing around with your head. I've been there plenty of times and TRUST me, you do NOT want to experience a full on nightmare like I have. So ask God what is going on. Go a head. Be honost and tell Him, "I have no idea if You exist and are listening, but I have some serious questions for You."
I had a nightmare once about a non-Christian man who began to question himself. (He kept hearing about God.) That man didn't see that there was a demon in the same room with him. I can not tell you why you had that dream. I am not an interpreter of dreams. Just keep searching why you had that dream. You might find an answer.

Well my freind,
despite the fact that your not a believer, you have a spirit and that spirit is being convicted.
I would love to respectfully ask what changed you from being a believer from an atheist.
Something in your soul is still crying out, that is the reason for the nightmare, you may even have some unresolved or buried deep things that still bother you.
Either way, be blessed and I pray you find your peace.
PS. I'm here.

Ones inner thoughts are often not even easy for the very individual to understand, kind of like the atheist inside of yourself denying the beliefs that you once had and yet another part of you still holding on to these belief for the security or comfort that you had during that time of your life. A need for something outside of this life that no one may take away or deny you - your special place or feelings that could not be taken away it must be given up freely and it appears that somewhere inside yourself you are not willing to totally give the old way/security up. Or It could be just a bad dream if that makes you feel any better - Have a fine day!

Its just the subconscious working out those long brainwashed concepts and learned beliefs. The idea of God is attractive. That doesn't make it real. I get depressed sometimes when I think about my parents eventual death because I realize they will simply cease to exist. When you're told from the moment you are born until the day you die that Jesus loves you or the kingdom of Heaven awaits you- you long for it, it appeals to our vanity and hubris- even if it no longer makes sense. The idea or being eternal is so attractive and at the same time the concept of there being nothing is scary to your psyche. But alas, wanting something doesn't make it so.

Why do people who quit drugs go back?
Because it makes them feel good.
Religion is the opiate of the masses. It gives nice warm answers that make people feel good about themselves. Someone out there loves you, you are going to keep existing after you die, etc.
I am guessing that you miss the feelings of comfort and belonging to a group.
I would love some religion to be correct, and a great, loving sky pixie to save my soul after I die. However, the rational part of my mind knows that there is no reason to believe anything of the sort. I would rather deal with the harsh realities of this world as they really are, rather than how some nomad 4000 years ago thought that they might be.

I do hope the answers you've received from people warning you that Gawd is trying to reenlist you will have banished any uncertainty you may have had. Do you really want to fall back into this sort of lunacy and magical thinking?
Stick with it - 'twas just a dream. Like the one you have that you're eating a 50-pound marshmallow - and when you wake up your pillow's gone.

You just had too much R & S on the brain when you went to sleep. Step back, go get a drink (uncaffeinated), watch some tv or read a book for a while. Don't go straight from the forum to bed. Or don't get locked in heated arguments with Christians earlier in the day, during which they yell at you that you need to repent.

God is calling you.
You are one of His children and He wants you back.
I don't know what turned you from God, but He still loves you.
You know what? You are going to follow your own instincts.
You asked for opinions about your dream and as I read the answers some of these people sound like satan himself.
They will say anything to keep you from God.
