Guatemala. Campaigner for human rights, especially for indigenous peoples.
Menchú is a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador. She is the subject of the testimonial biography I, Rigoberta Menchú (1983) and the author of the autobiographical work, Crossing Borders.
On Monday, February 12, 2007, Menchú announced that she would form an indigenous political party and that she would stand as a presidential candidate in the Guatemalan general election, 2007.

Rigoberta Menchu--She is an Indigenous Guatemalan that faught for the rights of the Mayas in South America. She is a UNESCO goodwill ambassador, she won the 1992 Nobel Peace Prize and the Premiom Principe de Asturias (Prince of Asturias Award) in 1998.
Currently she is running for president in Guatemala. If she becomes elected she will be Guatemala's first female president.
