You don't mention your age, but it is possible you were suffering from a mild attack of gout. The easiest way to determine if this is what is happening is to have a blood sample taken and analyzed for your level of uric acid.

High-level of uric acid's will facilitate a gout attack sooner or later. High uric acid levels can also make the walls of your arteries, brittle which can cause other problems as you age.

The good news is, this is your uric acid levels are high, you can't treat it by a change in diet and or taking allapurinol on a daily basis.

Because it's hard for you to move your big toe I would expect it to be inflammation Of the joint right below your big toe. When you get this soak your feet in hot water with 1c. of Epsom salts for twenty minutes. Use over the counter anti inflammatory medication such as Advil three times a day. See if this works for you. If not check with your medical doctor.
