but it does not come with a xp or recovery disc. how do i go about doing it? warranty is already out.

You need the disc. There really isn't anything you can do without it. You can buy a copy, price ranging from $80 - $130. Otherwise, you're pretty much sunk. If you still know what you CD-key, then maybe a friend will let you borrow his disc to use with your CD-Key. As long as it isn't one of those stupid "Dell discs" or something, it will work.

As Lamont M said, you can possibly use a friends installation CD as long as you use your CD Key (should be a MS Genuine sticker on the case of your system). While technically this could violate the license (OEM vs retail), I wouldn't feel too bad about it. In the spirit of licensing, I think you'll be OK.
