Yes, some variations of philosophy, generally within dualistic ones, tend to see altruism as a kind of weakness. Within most Eastern philosophies, however, it is seen as the ultimate form of strength... and those on the path of absolute altruism seen as true 'warriors'. It all depends on the POV.

~~~sybil ,,,,Like "beauty", it is in the Eye of the Beholder. Remember there are Predators in The Real World walking among us GentlePersons. Until mankind reaches a State of "Eden or Utopia" we must Take Care,,,, without becoming Paranoid. This is one of those things we must Balance in Life. One can only use their Best Judgement in ANY scenario. The important thing to accept is when someone "burns" you that you don't automatically "shut down" the next time you see an opportunity to extend your "kindness".
I personally think it's more of a rarity or "gift" if you will. In this rush rush world, when someone actually takes the time to do something nice for someone, it should be viewed as special, and not taken for granted. Too much indifference, and ignorance in today's world. Acts of kindness should be appreciated, and cherished, and people shoud "pay it forward".
I think there's something to that.
We live in a fast-paced world, and with that hectic atmosphere comes a certain amount of pressure, and people deal with that pressure in varying ways.
I think it's fine to be kind but not to the point where you become a doormat.
And some situations call for sarcasm and brutal honesty.
Only by those who are incapable of remorse. I have known a few men like that in my life.
