I am doing a wedding project in my sociology class and we need to research the high and low end of wedding catering costs. Anyone know any good websites for either?

If you want to get some detailed answers first select some major metropolation areas (new York, San Francisco, Los Angles) then select some less metro areas (new jersesy, sacramento, denver) and then small towns.

Find cateres in each area (3 per area) and give thema head count of 100, sitted dinner vs. buffet and see what they come back with. Create and average based on those numbers.

There is no site to give you this info that i know of. My catering cost is $10,000 for 100 people in Monterey CA

If you want high end, google for weddings in Napa Valley. The Embassy Suites here is way high end. We couldn't afford it so we just ran off the JP. My cousin here in Napa caters starting out at $40 a plate minimum! It's crazy-expensive to have a wedding here.

Even the supermarkets are getting all fancy so their catering is like $35 for a cheese platter for 10!

Now if you're in the midwest, you can throw a fancy dinner for under $1000 for 200 people. But all you get is burnt chicken and mayo salads.

You're going to need to provide specifics for an accurate answer. Are you looking for globally? Nationally? Locally? In the past year? 10 years?

A lot of variables come into play when it comes to cost - location, time of year (seasonality of food), type of meal, size of guest list.

Try looking at www.theknot.com It is a comprehensive wedding website that has a lot of boards.

And just for reference, I am from the midwest and wouldn't consider burnt chicken and mayo salad a fancy dinner. The catering for our wedding in the summer of 05 was about $4,000 for 65 people (drinks included).
