While you have gained weight (it is common to do so in winter months as we are more likely to be sedentary), you are NOT obese! Start getting more active and watch what you consume (drinks included). With spring here it will be quick and easy to drop some pounds and get those abs back!
Cardio and weights .... but make it FUN!!!!! :)
Good luck, handsome!

At 5' 11" no you are not fat or chubby. You will see your abs again if you so some strength training/weight training. You can build muscle and look leaner. Swimming is real good too to tone abs , don't be afraid to go to the beach, buy some shorts that fit and go.
You don't say your age but the older you get the more your metabolism slows down and this makes it harder to keep weight off.
If anything you may have been underweight at 156.

James gave you a cute answer! haha That's quite insensitive of your girlfriend, it's your body not hers. I bet she wouldn't like it if you told her she was fat. For a guy that's 5'11" that's okay, most girls don't mind a little meat on their guys, but if you want to get in shape or youre worried about your health see a physician, and heck, forget the scale, just do things to make yourself feel better like work out, play some ball, etc. Living and leading a more active lifestlye will make you feel great and look it, don't worry about the numbers and so much about what other people think.

seeing the abs is a nice goal. how about just getting back into last years shorts?
cut back the fast foods and sweets and chips and go for some healthy stuff.
alcohol is FILLED with empty calories too. Watch that and you might lose from just skipping the booze.
get in a walk or a run every day too.

No way, not for your height but if you want to get back into shape, cut out the carbs, and do some cardio, the weight will come off.

Wow if she thinks that is fat I have at least 25 friends who don't. It really does depend on your frame if that is ok for you. I would not think anything of a guy being that proportion but you have to be happy.

Here's a site with an "ideal weight" calculator you can check out http://www.freedieting.com/tools/ideal_body_weight.htm
There are some others there as well, that you may find interesting (calories burned, calorie needs, calories in food, etc.)
