Only real solution is to buy some additional RAM and install it.

You can use a ram recovery tool such as freemem, which will help some, but not a lot if you are running with less than 256mb ram. What a ram recovery tool does is to "recover" ram that may be set aside for a program running in the background, or more often, one recently closed, but the RAM hasn't been released for use yet.

If you are running Windows 98 or ME, you should have 512 mb of RAM or more; Win XP, 1gb + and Vista, 2gb+ to run optimally.

No, RAM does stand for Random Access Memory, but it does not need to be "cleared of any unimportant files to keep it's space adequate."

Ram does not hold data for longer than a few seconds. Think of ram as the fuel injectors of a car. Its where the fuel(data) is held until it can be injected into the engine(processor) to be ignited(processed).

The only way you can fix it is to install more physical memory. More RAM.

Go to http://www.crucial.com and run the system scanner to find out what kind of memory you have on your computer. Then go to your local electronics store with all the information you got from crucial and buy more memory.
