Well to answer your question simply, prepare, prepare, prepare.
If you are serious about joining the military and want to do well in basic training (boot camp), then you must train your body and mind before entering.
The military can be a very good place to start a career. Hey, where else can you go and get paid to learn a trade, career etc? The military can be very rewarding and challenging to anyone. Don't forget even if you go in as an enlisted person you can advance the ranks and even go to Officers Candidate school to become an officer.
As for the weight and height requirements that depends on which branch of the military you want to join.
Also, most offer a glimps of their basic training on their websites. Here are the links. If you need specific information, go talk to someone you or a friends knows who is in the military. But don't go and talk to the recruiter just yet, because his job is to get you to join up and sign away on the dotted line.
Good luck.

Hey Sex Black Fasho, The height and weight for a female 5'7 under 20 years old is between 128-169 lbs. Basic isn't that bad. I joined back in 2001 and did basic at Ft.Knox. IO was skinny, thick glasses, uncoordinated, and very nonathletic but You have to remember that many people go through basic for years and the majority passes. There is nothing you can really do to get injured. Best of luck.

All I know is Marine Corps Recruit Training.
Pretty much you wake up at 0530 Mon-Sat and 0630 Sun and clean the squadbay for 30 minutes. After chow you either PT, go to knowledge class, or religious service. This takes up most of the morning. After noon chow you either PT, go to knowledge class, or do rifle manual drills. After evening chow you do rifle manual drill for 2.5/3 hours. It becomes repititive but everyday is not the same. You don't actually do formal PT everyday because getting smoked on the quarterdeck and in the pits is PT enough. Also running around like a chicken with it's head cut off is also a form of PT.
Yes people do get seriously injured (USMC anyways). I've seen recruits have stress fractures, broken legs, horrible pneumonia and URI, etc. I spent a week in MRP and it's more depressing than being in a training company. Recruits actually spend upwards to 9 months in MRP and get sent home afterward because they're no longer qualified to be a Marine.
Height/Weight requirements... you have to check with each individual branch. For 5'7"...
USMC: 109-155 lbs (I assume you're under 24)

USN: up to 167 lbs

USAF: 121-175 lbs

USAR: up to 150 lbs

Boot camp is where they get people up to a minimum physical standard, teach them basic military protocols, how to use a firearm properly/safely/effectively, and most of all, introduce people to reality. Some become friends with reality right away and have no problems in Basic, others cling to fantasy worlds of their own inflated egos for several weeks and have a difficult time adjusting.

the boot camp is now a joke! before in the past it was like you saw in the movies. now its sissyfied.i went through in 1997 and they were not allowed to talk to you the way they did they couldnt touch you the way they did all they did was make you do push ups or exercise of some sort for discipline?so most of the thugs that were in thought it was a joke and did what they wanted.now they (the military) has stress cards if your feelings are hurt hold up your stress card and they have to leave you alone...its a joke.i knew a soldier who was smuggling in cigs and cokes and other illegal colateral and all they got was a loss of family visitation on the weekend???? old days you would be court marshelled or kicked out...

well most people come back and think its hard, but through it all, you gain strength, i guess. And your doing it to help your country so it's worth it, i guess. My brother is in the Marines, and he totally loved boot camp, he thought it was just plain fun. So it really depends who you are if the process of boot camp is worth it.

I was in the British Army so it was much harder than the U.S.
Anyway there all hard as the instructors want to break you. Not always for fun but to see if you have what it takes and so they know your limits.
It will at times feel like the biggest pile of s**t but hang on in there!!.
I nearly quit but my instructor explained that it wasnt personal, just what they had to do!. And seven yrs later i have some amaizing memories and great freinds.
Not only did i Guard Buckingham Palace but i went inside walking around on my own!! (i was aloud)!!
As for injurys sure you might but just do as they say and you should be ok..............GO FOR IT AND GOOD LUCK! X
