because when we seek and ask, we are already seeking to do God's will and not our own. our 'wants' in life are usually selfish and self centered.... I have more than I need, and God provides each and every day for us. I am sure that perhaps you need to read the whole word and understand that once you choose Christ, you choose God's will for your life.... and God's will is often different than our own

Don't worry, I'm sure they'll all say they are perfectly happy with that. They may even say something like "he didn't mean REAL things, Jesus can only give you SPIRITUAL things." But somehow, we're supposed to take it literally when Jesus is described as the Son of God. Trust me, their hypocracy knows no bounds.
There is no scripture in which Jesus says that he will only do or give things to and for you if "it's in God's will." That is a christian apologeticists myth to explain why prayer does not work as advertised.
Matthew 21:21-22 , Matthew 7:7-8, Matthew 18:19-20, Mark 11:24-25, man, there are too many passages to list, but all of them say the same thing, if you ask Jesus for it, he will do it for you. These are the words of Jesus, not his disciples. So, either Jesus didn't know what he was talking about and the disciples did, or prayer just doesn't work. Take your pick.

The context is (read the next verse) "good things" given by the Father. In the other gospels, it is clarified as "the Holy Spirit". So if you want the things of God, you need only ask. If you want things on earth, those are not good things, those are distractions from what is eternal.
Also in context, this is a Father to a son. If you are not in the family of God through salvation, you are not a son, and this will not pertain to you.
Those who are in the family, do not want the things of this world--it is an anchor. Rather, we want every good gift that comes from God. In my life, He has fulfilled this promise 100 fold.

I think you are confusing what is spiritual from what is physical. God never promised to buy you a Mercedes Benz, a colored TV, or a round of drinks at Aces.
He did, however, promise to give His peace to anyone who asks. He promises that if you seek Him, you will find Him.
If you go knock-knock-knockin' on Heaven's door
He will open it, and let you in.
May God be gracious unto you, may He make His face to shine upon you, and give you peace.

Seek first the kingdom of heaven. It's not about gaining the material things of the earth first.
Matthew 6:33-34 "But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. So do not worry about tomorrrow will care for itself. Each day had enough trouble of its own."

Hi there,
you must also understand that we must seek the kingdom of God first (Check out Matthew 6). Also, when we ask for things it must be according to His will. He can see the whole picture, but we cannot. Trust in Him, and He will satisfy you with good things. (Psalm 107) =)

Because THINGS are not what Jesus is about.
I would like a hydrogen car that uses no gas and emits no polutants into the air...I know I am not going to get it by asking God for it.
Asking God for "things" is a child's way of praying.

There are stipulations to the request, first of all you have to pray without ceasing as well as being obedient, and then the most important thing is having faith because that is the currency in the spiritual world. You got to have faith that is what pleases God.

The church is not to give you water that will leave you thirsty in a short time (new car, big house, etc) but an oppertunity to be of service to each other and thus find a joy and happiness that will never pass.

They have asked for glib excuses, they have sought self righteousness, they have knocked any beliefs that are not theirs.
Unfortunately, the only thing that has not opened is their minds.
They do not have what they want because no amount of thumbing down or harassment by reporting of those they oppose has worked for them.
Perhaps their God is angry with them.
You may have quoted out of context, but I do not see the text 'in context' posted to correct you.
They do not care to educate, just to denigrate.

Seek and ye shall find: "law worketh wrath" is destructive.
Seek and ye shall find: "grace is sufficient" is constructive.
God hath not appt'd us unto wrath(destruction): 1Thess 5:9.
Law: law worketh wrath, is also the ministration of death.
Grace: worketh peace, is ministration of righteousness.
The GRACE of our Lord Jesus Christ with you all. Amen.
