Not really. While I am not hostile towards creationism, it doesn't meet enough criterion to be considered a science. Much of it consists of arguments against evolution, which isn't the same as building a scientific model.

Well i believe its fact. There is the theory of gravity but that does not mean gravity is not a fact. Anyway every scientist knows that natural selection is real. Alot happens too genes over a billion years. The basic idea of evolution is fact but there are some parts of evolution that are theory. Animals do change over long periods of time. Now the real question is where did the first microb come from and how long did it take to evolve and into what. Creation answers that even thought its a joke.

Creationism is not a theory, it is a story. To understand this you must understand what a theory is in scientific terms.

In science, a theory is a mathematical description, a logical explanation, a verified hypothesis, or a proven model of the manner of interaction of a set of natural phenomena, capable of predicting future occurrences or observations of the same kind, and capable of being tested through experiment or otherwise falsified through empirical observation. It follows from this that for scientists "theory" and "fact" do not necessarily stand in opposition.

The story of creation does not fit into any terms that would classify it as a theory.

No. The scientific definition of "theory" is, when the testing of a hypothesis (through experiments performed or predictions made), repeatedly confirms the hypothesis-the hypothesis becomes a "theory".
In "Creationism", the word "theory" is interchangeable with the words "opinion", or "belief". It need not be tested, and there need not be any evidence showing that this "theory" has any basis in fact.

No. Its a Theory. Big difference.

Creationism is a hypothesis with absolutely no evidence to prove its worth, hence it is not and never will be a Theory.

EDIT* Stevies - youre incorrect in ALL of your assumptions. Transitional fossils are all around us - try reading some science rather than that lame Bible of yours. We never came from apes, thats why there are still apes - apes and humans derived from a COMMON ANCESTOR. I dont know why this is so hard for you fundies...

It's a theory... the same way gravity is a theory. A scientific theory meant to explain observable phenomena. It is useful because we can try to use the mechanisms described to produce helpful things like vaccines or bug-resistant plants

Creation theory is made up first and people try to prove it second. It is of absolutely no practical use, because it explains no mechanism by which this was accomplished. Talk about fluffy bunnies.

Evolution is a scientific theory which is supported by observable facts, creation is a crackpot theory which is supported by a book of iron age fables. So the answer is no, evolution is not a theory like creation is. Anyone that claims it is does not understand what a scientific theory is.

Evolution is a scientific theory and therefore based upon solid research and evidence.

Creation is a myth like in all the other religions - no evidence but a useful metaphor.

It is indeed the creationists who draw me to this section. In England they are now setting up schools in which they can propagate their nonsense to the detriment of our children.

Keep Creationism in the mythology section where it belongs

Oviously Biblestudent is just that and nothing else.

Ohhhhh lol i know you know the meaning of theory so I should just indulge in the sarcasm...

but seriously biblestudent needs a good swift kick in the rear as to why an answer like that will get you thumbs down all over the place.

What's really killin' me is that so many of u r saying that evolution has been PROVEN!! WHEN & WHERE???? The last I heard is that scientists are still looking for the MISSING LINK!!! RING A BELL???? There is NO proof of evolution!! It is just a theory. If we evolved from apes then why are there STILL apes around, wouldn't they have evolved already??? Even Darwin got stuck on the complexity of the eyeball. Where am I wrong Heather?
