As the first answerer said, this is how the laws are now.
I hate to repetitive, but a lot of people just cannot seem to grasp this. They think that because they can't have a monopoly on other people's religious practices, that means there is somehow discrimination against their faith.
Once again, NO ONE IS SAYING THE KIDDIES CANNOT PRAY IN SCHOOLS. THEY ARE JUST SAYING THAT IT CANNOT BE FORCED UPON EVERYONE ELSE.
And yes, along with freedom OF religion, we also have freedom FROM religion, which means people are free to be non-religious if they so wish.
Thank you for listening. Good day to all.

ok, i think that prayer should be left within the house hold or church that a family attends. It would cause to many arguments in schools and among peoples religious beliefs. Prayer is ment to stay between you anf\d who ever your god is. Even in an all catholic school or something. what if there is a kid who starts to doubt it, and doest want to pray. you cant force it on some one. like i said, even by rules you can not have prayer in school, to many issues to be looked at.

Any child can pray in a public school anytime they wish. What the law forbids is the school organizing, promoting, or endorsing any type of prayer. I would think the religious would appreciate and like this law. If the government allowed schools to actively promote prayer, whose prayers would they endorse? Christian? Which demonination? Muslim? Mormon? etc?

Okay, you've caught up.
Prayer in school is not banned or forced. It cannot be lead by the administration and cannot disrupt the educational process.
Within those guidelines, pray all you want. If you have time to sit at your desk and pray, then do so silently so as not to interupt others while they study. If you want to pray outside at lunchtime, go ahead.
There is nothing stopping an individual from praying at school.

There isn't really anything keeping any child from being able to silently pray at his or her desk for a moment, or anything wrong with a parent teaching a child to do that on thier own. it's only about not forcing a specific prayer on them. When I went to school, we all had to say the "Our Father" every morning, regardless of what religion we were being brought up in. I have nothing against the " Our Father", but I do think it wrong to force it on someone who doesn't have the same beliefs, or to do things like allow a religious group to go around handing out tracts or preach to the students or whatever, that should be left off of school grounds, so the school does not appear to be endorsing a particular church to the students. It's really the parent's right to see to thier children's religious upbringing, and the parent's responsibility to instill thier values in thier children, and if they aren't doing that, no matter what the school does, will not make up for parents who aren't doing thier job at home. The children spend far more time out of school than they do in school, and it's up to the parents to supervise how they should spend thier time. But as for silent prayer, anyone can do that anywhere.....
Earl, One of the students in my class that had to say the "Our Father" every morning, made Christmas cards, and watched traditional nativity school plays, went out and stabbed an old woman to death, (78 times) and had a list of everyone he was going for next in his locker. (Mostly other students. They never allowed the names to get out, so as not to frighten the kids.) I can think of a few other situations when students outright rioted in my school, and that was way back in the dark ages, in my school we had organized prayer in to the early 70's, I got a Gideon's handed to me when I left elementary school in 71...The shooters at Columbine and Virginia tech were mentally ill, very troubled students. Thier problems began at home long before they ever went to school, and thier problems did not end once they walked out of school, and went back home. Where were those student's parents, and how come they didn't know thier kids were that bad off? If the parents aren't already instilling faith in thier children at home, church, and sunday school, no amount of forced prayer at school is going to make up for that.

agreed. I do feel that if kids want to gather on school property to pray, then they should be allowed, too. But often this is barred because some people seem to think that it violates separation of Church and state. I personally think that banning it violates free practise opf religion.
Edit to Earl: Streets buckle more in summer time, more heart attacks occur in summertime. You would conclude that street buckling causes heart attacks, wouldn't you?

It's a fact of life that when we made Chirstmas Cards and sang Christmas Carols in school there were no shootings in schools.
It's been science we abandond faith that people like to kill people in schools.
That is an indisputable fact. How many school shootings happened prior to 1968 in the public schools.
Go look it up.
Atheist arm twisiting has resulted in Columbine VT and other situations.
The NEVER existed before the Atheists started changing things.
SHOW ME YOUR PROOFS
Show me SCHOOL SHOOTINGS prior to 1966
It has been the desertion of FAITH that has caused the moral decline.
