Don't memorize. Learn. Then you will not only know what it says, but what it means.

I usually stick a few verses in post-its here & there, like in my office, my desktop wallpaper… First, get those which are easily quotable, like John 1:1 (In the beginning was the Word..), or Romans 12:1 (But offer your bodies as living sacrifices..). Sometimes you can choose those that have common verse numbers, like 2 timothy 3:16 (like john 3:16), “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful in teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.” That way, whenever you can easily refer to them while doing something. I’ve actually learned to memorize several new verses because of how the agnostics question the same things over and over here in Y!A, and I use those verses to answer them. The way to really memorize it is to see it often & use it often, to immerse yourself in it. Start with a verse a week… after memorizing it, use it and quote it often… most importantly, ask the Holy Spirit to help you, so that in quoting His Word you will bless others as well. God bless :)

It's not easy. Ask God to give you a clear mind that's willing to learn and remember. It's seems like it's so easy to remember what we read in the papers or on news but hard to remember this mornings devotions. Read them over and over. And try to associate it with something that's a part of your daily life. I tack a different verse on the fridge every week. Then I can see it while a make meals or am just walking past. Keep trying and don't give up. Don't let the bullies on here intimidate you either. They're just jealous.

make a game of it - write out a passage or psalm you want to learn, then try to learn the first verse. The next day, try to add another and so on.... ask a friend/relative to practice with you..
the bible instructs us to memorize scripture - that way, the verses will jump to mind when needed.
Good for you that you want to do this!

Repetition.
Pick some useful or favorite Bible verses. Read them often. Read them over and over. I have Bible verses memorized that I have not even planned on memorizing simply because I have come across them so often in my study.

I began Scripture memorization by using the Topical Memory System, developed by the Navigators. You can find it in any Christian book store, or at cbd.com.
I have also read through the Bible several times, using a different translation each time. By rereading it over and over, I am able to recall much.
You must start somewhere, and the system I mentioned above will get you started.

Get an easy to use concordance. I personally recommend the New International Version Study Bible. It has a concordance in it.
You look up a word that you have in mind, say "love". It will give you a list of every time the word "love" appears in the Bible beginning with Genesis and ending in Revelation.

People don't memorize the bible word for word. The average thumper may have a handful of verses committed to memory but that's it. If you want to read the bible, you can find it online.

It is mainly study of what the Bible teaches with repetition that naturally causes you to remember. When you see a scripture listed, look it up and you will remember.

just read it and read and after that read it more, sitting down and memorizing isn't as good as just reading and enjoying what you read, start with the small books like Jonah etc. 1 John Jude, and work your way up, just read them over and over and over and you will remember what side of the page the info is on, that's how i do it, and enjoy when you do it, it's not about memorizing or showing off, enjoy your relationship with the Savior
