Friend of mine has a white pit bull that, honestly, is sunburned! Anyone else come across this happening? What can you do to prevent/treat it? Poor thing is pitiful looking!

Yes! I have a white Bull Terrier. Chinese Cresteds can get it too and many other short haired breeds. You really have to keep them out of the sun until they work up a tan a bit at a time. I have a Newfie that I shave and we are careful with him too. Keep them in the shade. Cool baths with plain water will help the sunburn.

Sounds awful & yes they can get sunburns, as dangerous & painful to dogs as it humans :( You can use sunscreens on dogs - am not sure if they make doggie sunscreens or what kind to use, but I'd say check pet stores like PetSmart or with a vet to see what is good for them so it don't make them sick, animals lick & the wrong lotions, etc can make them sick... bald &/or albino dogs & cats have to have sunscreen when they go out...it could also be tho if the dog is white, their skin is very pink any way where it's white especially... so unless you know there is pain...it may not be a sunburn..Take Care :)

If the dog has skin exposed then yes, he can get sunburned. Just put sunblock on him.
