Yes, you are out of context. The only "animal" that I can recall speaking in the Bible was the serpent in the garden, which wasn't supposed to be an ordinary snake anyway. Can you give other examples? At any rate, what people never seem to get about the Bible is that it is an old book. A VERY old book. Written by a bunch of very old men. No, not everything is meant to be taken literally, and I don't believe that anyone ever claimed that Genesis was supposed to be an eyewitness account.

It has been referenced that Satan was doing ventriloquism. The snake did not actually speak. But the Bible said the serpent spoke to Eve. Whether it was the serpents mouth moving or a trick of Satan the woman was truly deceived.
Balaam's course had been stubborn against God's will so God sent angels to bar his way. The animal saw them and 3 times turned aside and 3 times got beat for it.
The voiceless beast of burden, making utterance with the voice of a man, hindered the prophets mad course. But eventually Balaam sinned so grievously he was killed with the sword and all his household except the virgins.

No. It is a literal happening. Balaam's donkey actually spoke.
Come on-If God could speak the universe into existence-making a jack-*** talk is child's play.

Every animal has its own language. It takes a gift of God for us to understand the animal.
