Some people said to "pray for his soul". And one person said hopefully now that he is dead he will repent of his actions? So are you saying we can do anything in this life and just repent after we die and everything will be all right? Do you believe if we pray for a soul that God will forgive them and accept them because of our prayers that were offered?

I doubt anyone will respond to added detail. I am just curious.

Yes, I feel we should. As horrible as this has been for the families of the victims, think about the family of Cho. His parents must feel like they failed him in some way. They must feel tremendous grief and guilt.

God bless,
Stanbo

They are probably referring to Purgatory.

Yes, we most certainly should be praying for Cho's family. They are undergoing a very trying time (to put it lightly) and they deserve our strength and support. Cho committed this crime; they are left to deal with the aftermath. I feel bad for them because I'm sure there are people who blame them for actions they had no control over.

As for praying for Cho's soul... this is purely my opinion. It's based a bit on Catholic teaching, but it has as much "me" in it as anything. To go to Hell, one must die in a state of complete and utter separation from God. That is something that is a conscious choice. We don't know if that was where Cho was. We don't know how mental illness really came into play here (Can a person be so chemically imbalanced that they have no control?) and the most important thing is that we don't know the mind of God. Maybe it IS possible to reconnect to God after death. Heck, I believe that the soul is eternal... nothing is impossible for God, so maybe there is hope. Not saying that it's something easy or that there isn't accountibility to be had and consequences of actions to be faced, but I do my best not to hate anyone. God loves His creation and God wants what is best for us. So to me, it seems logical to pray that there is a way for Cho's soul to "heal" and find its way back to God.

most definately. being a parent myself i can not imagine the pain they must be going through wondering if they could have done something to have stopped it. parents always see there children as the little toddler they played with. i have no doubt that there have been some very cruel things said to them since it happened. Cho Seung-Hui was a boy who suffered a lot of torment and bullying coming up in this world, my heart hurts for him. If only people realized the damage they can inflict on others with their words. When was the last time the class president or the head cheerleader or football star went bezerk and started shooting it's always one of the school misfits who are ignored and made fun of to the point that some want to retaliate instead of going home and stuffing themselves with food or getting addicted to some other substance.

Yes, your question is a good reminder to pray for his family during what must be a very difficult time. Not only are they dealing with his loss, but with the heavy burden of knowing their son was responsible for many innocent deaths.

We should also be praying for the soul of Cho Seung-Hui. God is both just and merciful.

We should certainly pray for his family. I'm sure they are also devastated and they didn't do anything. As for Cho...he made his own decision and now faces judgement for his sins. Do I think God will forgive him? Personally no, the Bible says it is appointed to man but once to die and the decision is made before we die not after. But all Christians should pray for everyone involved in this tragedy.

Yes. And for the soul of Cho as well.
Christians should be ready to forgive any person who repents for their crimes. Now that Cho is dead, we can pray that he sees the wrong in his actions and repents.
We should also be ready to help all those who have been going through hard times, as I'm sure the family is.

I have been praying for them as well. Like much of the assumptions I make in life I had assumed them to be Buddhist but they are in fact Korean Christians. Of course I was praying for them anyhow but I had to admit to assuming they weren't. In fact I was hoping he wouldn't be Christian I think. How bad is that. Anyhow it just proves to me that praying for people is important as I evidently need some prayer as well.
We should pray for them as they are in pain. They need pray and love now as much as or more. They must have every negative emotion you can think of going on. I'm praying they will find peace in our Lord and that Christians will reach out to them in our country of all ethnic backgrounds.

Yes I have been also and I also prayed for Cho and that God have mercy on His soul. His family is not to blame for what happened. Cho made that decision all by himself
