to everyone who is asking why guys have to stand to pee...it is genetic. as is flushing just before you finish and trying to beat th fluh. this explaines why the water has a slight hint of yellow even though we flushed.

I made a deal with my wife. I told her that I will put the seat
down after I pee if she puts the seat up after she pees. It
seems only fair. She's never bothered me about it since.

It doesn't bother me. I figure hubby must be annoyed that I always leave it down. Is it really so difficult to lift it yourself?

Yes, there have been the occasional times when I almost fell in in the middle of the night, but it's not that big of a deal. I never understood why most women get so up in arms about this.

I don't like it when the seat is up because it means I have to touch the seat to put it down. I realize it's my house and I keep the toilets very clean, but still--it's a toilet seat!!! Plus I don't like looking at the pee drips and occasional hair that my husband leaves on the rim of the toilet. It's just disgusting.

There is certainly a reasonable argument on both sides. Why should it be a man's responsibility to put it down, when it should be equally a woman's to do so? I guess you to look at it from a practical point of view. It's less of an impact on a man to put the seat down, that it is on a woman who doesn't check first. Granted, you could then say that since she has the potential to fall in if she doesn't check, that's her responsibility.

That said, it's really just common courtesy to prepare the restroom for the next person who might be using it, and it's annoying when other humans don't display common courtesy.

It's common courtesy to cover your hands when you sneeze. (Of course, the others around you could wear face masks; after all, if they choose to expose themselves to germs, that's their problem.)

It's common courtesy to leave the room if you have to pass gas. (Of course, the others around you could just plug their sensitive noses.)

It's common courtesy to give your seat to someone who his less physically able to stand. (Of course it's his/her problem that s/he had the misfortune or didn't have the good sense not to get into that situation.)

Understand?

MOST of the time, my husband puts the seat down because he is a thoughtful person, (Can you imagine, doing something merely because it's a thoughtful thing to do?!!), and doesn't want me to get a cold, wet bum if I happen to forget to check. (And let's face it, when one has a lot on her mind, or when it's dark and it's the middle of the night, checking to see if the seat's down is the last thing she's thinking about.)

It's the same for both men and women. A man has to lift the seat UP when they have to use it. The woman just has to put it back down when she wants to use it. Both have to do something.
I guess us women always have to find something to nag about.

Well, being 32 weeks pregant and having to pee twice in any given night makes me thankful my husband DOES sit down to pee. He leaves the damned seat down.
I would hate to fall into the toilet.
I'm just saying, it doesn't just you to put it DOWN, but it can hurt us if we don't see it!!! Just be nice!

Honestly, if they "fall in" at three in the morning, I can SOMEWHAT understand. However, when I go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, even I get a good look at the toilet before using it. I don't use the bathroom in pitch dark, but apparently a lot of women do.

Besides, I think some women (note that I said SOME and not ALL) just like to get mad at the men in their lives. It's nothing personal, they just like to get all mad and self-righteous and preachy.

I have no problem with guys leaving the seat up. We each get a little workout doing it.

Because it really sucks getting your butt wet with ice cold water at 3:00 a.m. and at that time of night I dont look to see if the seat is up or down because it should be down. Why do guys have to stand to pee anyway???

I know that most women complain about falling in but to me it just looks tacky. My two boys have their own bathroom and I still make them put the seat down b/c of how it looks when company comes over.
