It is very effective. Even more so for people that are severely overweight as it provides relief from the weight so they can do more.

Any exercise, as you stick with it for a while, will contribute to weight loss. As long as you up the exercise as you down the weight. If you've lost 10lbs, then maybe you need to swim a little harder, or walk 10 mins/day--something different.
I used to swim before my work schedule changed, and it helped me stay motivated to eat right, and it helped me tone the muscles I already had (or didn't have!). As I continued, I noticed that my stomach & butt started to look toned...or not as fatty.

swimming and water aerobics do contribute to weight loss. in fact, u'll burn more calorie by doing these activities if compared to jogging.
