It depends on the conversation leading up to the "hang out" part. There are times when "hang out" means just that...to sit around a talk for a while...maybe have a few beers, but nothing else. But there are other times when "hang out" means "come to my house and rip my clothes off, then we'll have the beers." Plus it depends on whether or not her husband or boyfriend is there as well.

Usually if that is coming from a woman then they really just want to hang out and nothing more. It seems like when a girl wants something more than just hanging out they wouldn't be brave enough to ask.

it means the girl has an interest in you and wants to spend a little more time to see if you can further her attraction because girls like how that feels.
guys don't know how that feels, their minds are usually on the outcome. this is simply one of the differences between men and womens' thinking, and that's why guys don't completely understand it. women don't understand it either, but they will agree that it's true.

Girls think that guys mean go to a mall or movie theater or anywhere thats not the guy's house ((which is usually what the guy is thinking)
