I don't like to hear people use retarded that way. If it is a child in my family (nieces, nephews, etc.) who say it, then I tell them why it is better not to use that word. As far as gay, that is a fairly recent statement and I don't find that offensive; however a gay person may.

No, because I don't happen to be gay or retarded. I am a woman, though, but I still don't really consider sexist humor too offensive, particularly because women are always making fun of men, and I don't believe in double standards, so I'm fine with woman jokes. Racial slurs make me quite uncomfortable, although I'm white, it still bothers me when people joke about race or ethnicity, though I'm sure I've even done it myself a few times. I really hate ethnic slurs that target a specific nationality, like derogatory nicknames and stereotypes for various groups of people like Jews, Greeks, Italians, etc. I'd have to say that I am most offended by gross misuse of the English language (punctuation errors, misspellings, etc.)

It doesn't offend me personally because I know what you mean but I think it is polite to carefully choose your words sometimes because you never know who (children) is listening and may misunderstand you. It's nice to always be a role model when your out in public.

One of the most useful things to learn in life is how not to be offended easily... However, I think the one thing that ALWAYS offends me is when people hurt children - by their words, actions, and attitudes.

What offends me is anything that is done in a mean spirited way. When someone intentionally tries to hurt another person, I get angry.

There's only two things I hate in this world. People who are intolerant of other people's cultures and the Dutch.

nothing offends me more than judgemental people. people who are always gossiping about someone or putting someone down to make themselves look better.
