At some appts both of them are there so we can all discuss and draw up a treatment plan. This is the first time anyone has truely helped me. People have said they would be there for me but it never felt like it. Right now they are the only people I trust. With them being the first ones to help me I am afraid. I feel like they will screw me over. Should I be feeling this way? Has anyone else experienced this?

The fact that you have two different professionals looking out for you is a big protective factor.

Psychiatrists sometimes have incentives to just sedate their patients or make them dependent on medication. That's how psychiatrists make all their money. But the ones who work jointly with therapists are typically kept in check because a therapist's job is to help his or her client function better in the real world.

So having both a psychiatrist and therapist work together is like checks and balances. Psychiatrists make sure therapists are working hard enough and making progress, and therapists keep psychiatrists informed as to the types of symptoms they're having as well as any necessary alterations to their medication regimen.

It's good to hear they've been helpful. Keep up hope.

I have been undergoing treatment by a lady psychiatrist after being struck with a sudden amnexia in mid 2001 and recovered my memory 1 month later.

Later on, a male psychologist was also involved.

Since then, I have been working closely with the psychiatrist on the dosages of various pills to be taken but the specialist told me that I will have to be dependent on the pills for the rest of my live.

At the same time, I work closely with the psychologist on certain treatment programmes.

I have to say that both specialists know me better than my spouse. When I felt very moody or sudden depression that I needed the psychiatrist's help, I could even sms her for advise. It becomes so personal but there is a clear distinction between specialist and patient.

As to your feeling that your specialists will screw you over, I believe that they have a care of professional obligation to treat you accordingly. Trust in their professionalism as long as you (I don't know if you are a male or female) and your specialists know each others position.

You are going to be okay. As long as you always feel comfortable you should be fine.
