Thank you blueridgeliving; this is also an excellent question. Please, in your own words, describe to me what makes Christianity the religion of brotherly love? Or explain what makes it more of a religion of peace than Islam or other religions (if you believe it is).

Because God is love....and has forgiven us of sin through the blood of Jesus Christ.

And we are to go and do the same......and show forgiveness & grace to others

I believe that I already answered you on what makes Christianity a 'religion' of peace. Because the focus is peace with God. Now many practice it and show that they are not focusing that way, but I cannot change certain things about all Christians, only God can do that.

I do not know where you get the idea that Christianity is the 'religion of brotherly love'. That kind od love is brought up in the Bible, especially stated in the dialogue between Peter and Jesus arfter the resurrection, but it is not labeled as the 'religion of brotherly love' in the Bible. So I find your question rhetorical.

Christianity is a peaceful religion and Islam is absolutely not. As you see, Islamic extremist are the ones murdering and cutting peoples heads off. Christians just love Jesus and people and want others to know the freedom and forgiveness that comes from knowing Jesus personally. Islam is binding and you are likely to be imprisoned or killed if you do not hail Allah. Jesus commands Christian to love our ENEMIES and to bless them. I guess Christianity is known as the religion of brotherly love because it is about loving God with our whole being and loving others and putting their needs before our own. And there is joy there when we seek the good of another. It blesses our own hearts. When a person experiences the love of God in Jesus through forgiveness of sins the peace and joy is naturally shared with others because it is so great. "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another." John 13:34

Your kidding right? How can a religion which threatens people with eternal torture if they don't belong make any claim to brotherly love? The message of Christianity is Believe or Burn.

It is because the church has decided that even though no one really follows the idea of brotherly love, their 2000 year old book says christianity is.

It's sort of like Santa ClausE.

Giving as a way of showing love.

That's also what Santa ClausE did.

The fact that they try to explain all their emotions, even the most petty and vindictive, in terms of "love."

If they hate me for being gay (for example), it's not actually the brainless bigotry it appears to be - it's that they "love" me and want to "save" me from myself by lobbying to deny me civil rights.

In other words, "love" in Christianity is just a rhetorical flourish.
