While not for everyone a Chessie is as loyal to his owner as it gets.
What a lot of people fail to realize when considering a Chessie is that first and foremost the breed was developed by market hunters to protect their hunting equipment when they went home for the night. This means that the breed tends to be possessive of what they consider theirs. I've always laughed and said "you pick up a Chessies food dish only after asking for permission".
