I mean the spiritual meaning. I know that it's also a poem by Rudyard Kipling! :-)

It speaks to the distinction between the Christian God
and the Buddhist God.

The Buddhist God is supposedly a heathen idol. Some Christians do also kiss the feet of idols, although this is not considered idol worshiping. I would suspect that the distinction comes about in that one is made of mud and the other of marble.

Spiritually it is duplicity and the subjgation of others at its fineness.

An Example from " Road to Mandalay"
An' wastin' Christian kisses on an 'eathen idol's foot:
mandalay images Bloomin' idol made o' mud--
mandalay images Wot they called the Great Gawd Budd--
mandalay images Plucky lot she cared for idols when I kissed 'er where she stud!

Have a pleasant day.
