Loyalty to the extent that the thing to which you have pledged your allegiance will have a moral and legal hold over you and can call upon you to act on its behalf. If you have sworn allegiance to a nation, then in time of war you can be called up to serve it (provided, of course, you aren't too young or too old). You can be prevented by that nation from holding the passport of another country. That nation comes first in your priorities.

Allegiance is loyalty and devotion to a person, country, etc. For example, the Pledge of Allegiance is called that because it is a pledge of loyalty and devotion to the flag which represents our country. Saying the Pledge of Allegiance basically says that you are a devoted American citizen.

It means 'support and pledge.' Allegiance to a nation is to support its policy and to provide assistance in case of enemy attack.

It means we each, as individuals of many different races religions beliefs and philosophies, in the final analysis pledge our loyalty to a greater principle: our citizenship, our United States of America.
