I ship off August 29th, and I was wondering if anyone had any tips and/or comments that I should know about boot camp at Parris Island. I know I should start running....there is going to be ALOT of it!

You're going to do more physical exercise than you thought your body could handle without falling apart. So yeah, running, push ups, sit ups, flutter kicks, etc etc. The better in shape you are the better off you will be.
Female DI's are REALLY annoying. Like a mosquito in your ear at night. Just imagine having to listen to Hillary Clinton at high volume for 12 weeks. *shudder!*
Get used to maybe 4 hours of sleep per night. Your final test will keep you awake for over 2 days (The Crucible).
Boot camp isn't easy. It's not supposed to be. But you will learn a lot and become a better person!

Running should be a priority. Next forget that you are a "female.' You are going to be a Marine. You won't be treated any other way. Do not quit anything you do, give your all and you will do fine. It is hard for a reason. Get in shape now or boot camp is going to be a whole lot worse than it needs to be for you. Good Luck.

I am Army (boot at FT Leonard Wood) Now In Iraq for the 3 rd tour I keep asking!. Boot camp is tougher if it is hot out for sure. Keep at it and ask for some support if you need do not try to just Do it alone. It is over in no time and remember they are there to train you and Keep you alive. Best of Luck!

It's going to be HOT there. My husband did basic there and took me to see it so I could witness first hand how desolate it is. It's in the middle of a freaking swamp and it's going to be HOT, HOT, HOT!!

Conditioning yourself for the heat would probably be just as beneficial as running, pull ups, sit ups, push ups and preparing for high endurance situations.

I've got a lot of respect for anyone that makes it through Marine boot camp...I know I couldn't.

You will be required to meet specific minimum required time, distance in running by the end of BT. start walking and running. I was USAF and broke the Time for my squadron in 1979 with no prier preparation, but I was in shape before I went to BT. You will also have a lot of marching and hiking to do. I would recommend that you get some combat boots from a surplus store to do you walking and hiking in so you can get use to them. Good Luck and Thank you for joining the military

The toughest parts are the mind games, which I don't think there is any way to prepare for that. For the physical part, for women, the upper body stuff is probably the hardest part. So I would definately work on upper body strength for the dead arm hang

The first two weeks are the toughest to adjust to. It's a lot of mind games but just hang in there. Everyone else is going through the same thing you are.

Good for you. I think being a Marine might be the best experience of your life. Sit ups are very important also. Good luck

I just wanted to chime in a say, "CONGRATULATIONS and GOOD LUCK".

Watch your running. Please ensure that you don't over do it and injure yourself. Sit up are important, as are crunches. I know that the females in the USMC also have to do the "hang", as opposed to pull ups, so you might want to consider working on that. KNOW YOUR RANK STRUCTURE.
