What does Jesus mean when he calls John the Baptist "less than the least" in the Kingdom of Heaven?

Matt 11:11 Truly, I say to you, among those born of women there has arisen no one greater than John the Baptist. Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. (ESV)

How would I feel if Jesus said that about me?

Even the greatest person here on earth, made of flesh, is no comparison to the life of the everlasting in heaven. As for being the least of these in heaven....thank Goodness!.....if God only allowed the Mother Teresa's of the world to enter the gates of heaven there would be no hope for me.....I believe in Christ Jesus, the only son of God....and for me to be counted among the least of those in heaven...is an honor and a blessing.

It means that one takes on immortality, but your works that you've done on earth has rewarded you to be among the least in God's kingdom. That is why Jesus said that the least in the Kingdom of Heaven was greater than John the Baptist, because he was still a mortal here on earth. However, John the Baptist is certainly among the greatest in the Kingdom when he went to heaven, being that he was the preparer for the Lord!!!

Read that again; John the Baptist was not in heaven yet when Christ said that. The people putting words in Christ's mouth were trying to say that the lowest of the low (is anyone lower than anyone else in heaven???) in heaven are higher than anyone still on earth.

I think he is refering to the difference between life on earth and IN HEAVEN the place. AS great a person or leader that J the B was, a person in HEAVEN who is least in heaven. is greater than the greatest of earthlings.

My understanding is that the statement: "Yet the one who is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he." refers to Herod Antipas. Herod is least in the kingdom of heaven but is greater than John in this earth.
