My 23 month old son and I are travelling to Italy and as he is under 2 years old, he is an infant which means I don't have to book an extra seat for him. This is the first time my son is travelling by air and I'm not quite sure how it works. Unfortunately calling Easyjet would cost me £1 per minute so I'm not really keen on the idea.

Been to Italy (with easyjet) a few months ago with my 18 months old daughter. For the take off and landing she was seating on my laps (attach by a special belt). but for the rest of the flight, there was a free seat between my hubby and me, were we let her play. If the flight had been fully booked we would not have been allowed to do so, and she would have had to stay on our knees for the all duration of the flight :-(... Also, when you board the plane, family with young children always board first, and you can choose your seat. make sure that you sit your son on a seat while everybody is boarding. An hostess might ask you for his seat... but it is unlikely!
Have a good trip and don't forget to pack plenty of raisins for the take off and landing!!!

Not sure about Easyjet, but with Malaysia Airlines our son had a basinet (a very small cot that hooks onto the wall in front of our seat). It was too small for him really, but was somewhere for him to play. For take off and landing you get a belt that clips onto your seat belt. Your son sits on your lap and is strapped to you. For a short flight to Italy he should be happy on your lap or wandering about the plane on short walks with you. For anything longer (like Australia) book a seat!

I will give the same answer that most people have given, for landing and take off your child sits on your lap with and extender belt that fixes on your belt then goes around them. If the flight is full you will have to keep him on your knee, otherwise you may get to have a seat for him next to you free. Some planes have a bassinet feature, but at 23 months he will be too big for that. Have a nice flight, and don't worry it goes by really quick, I have flown transatlantic with my daughter at 12 months, 22months and 23 months with no problems.

While everyone else was spouting their opinions above, I collected this information from EasyJet's web site, which I've cited below.

The child is not guaranteed to have their own seat. In fact, you should expect to hold the child in your lap for the flight. The only way to guarantee a seat is to purchase one. And, EasyJet says you can have a maximum of one "lap child". If you have two, one must purchase and occupy their own seat.

Under 2 years old, he flies in your lap. If the flight isn't full, you can hopefully put him in the seat next to you. if it is a full flight, you hold him THE ENTIRE TIME. Not really that fun, and I dont mean for you or your son, but for the unfortunate soul sitting next to you.

Unless you book and pay for him to have his own seat, he will not have his own seat! He will have to be on your lap. If you are lucky, you might get to spread out into spare seats, but if the flight is full he will be on your lap the whole time.

No I am sorry your child will have to sit on your knee. They will give you an extender for the seat belt.

when i flew with easy jet and my daughter was small she sat on my knee with a separate belt which the attendant gave me when entering the plane.

i only flew from Glasgow to London so unsure if going to Italy makes a difference.

can you not email them?

He'll sit on your lap and you get an extension to your lapbelt to put round him.

Go on line. In the USA anyone on board has to have their own seat, children have to been in a car seat.
