No. The medical community is even sure what cause autism, how many different kinds there may be and why the levels of severity range so much.

Autism is always treatable since it is a MEDICAL condition but you need to find a doctor that thinks outside the box. The cause for my kids was a toxic mom with a fungal infection and lyme disease that set them up for immune problems before they were born. Add in a bunch of vaccines(some containing mercury) ,antibiotics and a few live virus vaccines and you have an autism cocktail. My kids incurable bowel disease is cured(with strict diet, herbal and homeopathic remedies) which took away alot of symptoms. They were heavy metal toxic especially lead and mercury which we have removed through chemical and natural chelation methods and we are currently in a system repair stage using homeopathic remedies and herbal supplements and also some energy medicine. They also receive plenty of behavioral based therapy, OT and speech therapy in a typical school setting. Do not fool yourself that my kids were mildly autistic to begin with because they were both very severe and VERY SICK. They are no longer very sick or very severe but not yet typical either. We still have some work ahead of us but we will get there. I have seen some very autistic kids totally mainstreamed and indistinguishable from their peers. Are they cured? I don't know if the damage done to their systems through environmental toxins will ever be completely repaired but I do believe the condition can be managed so their are no symptoms. Autism after all is diagnosed by behavior. If there is no behavior then there is no autism. There is not a one fits all treatment, if one kind of treatment doesn't work look for another. Never give up on your kids. Never let someone tell you its hopeless. There is always room for improvement.

I feel that there is no cure for autism. My son was diagnosed at 5 although I knew at 13 months that he was autistic. There are many treatments that you may be able to do with your child. Personally, I don't feel that my son's autism was caused by toxins or mercury vaccines. He did not have any vaccines that contained mercury, I asked the doctors at the time to see the actual vaccine and read it prior to using to prevent such things as this. Apparently in my case it is purely genetic since there are family members in prior generations with the same diagnosis. I have worked very hard with my son to get him from low functioning to high functioning. That included taking him out at 13 months to be stimulated and enrolled him in activities with other children his age that were typical 5 days a week. Most of which were free!!!!! Now that he is getting older his diagnosis is more prevelant and different therapies need to be done. As children mature they have different needs same with the autistic child. They will constantly need to be worked with to overcome what need at the time and boy does it change through adult hood. Personally I feel if my son doesnt want friends and is happy in his life why would I want him to be someone he is not or doesnt want to be?????

Perhaps not, but there are certainly things that should be done to address the physical symptoms. Reflux, constipation, spinning, chewing, toe walking can all be helped a great deal by biomedical interventions. An unconstipated child is a much happier child! Not all the things our kids on the spectrum experience should be written off as an "autistic problem." They have medical issues that should be addressed.

My son was diagnosed at 2 and at 5 he is diagnosis free. What did we do? We started by thinking outside the box and finding a doctor who would help. We found the DAN! (defeat autism now!) movement after I read Bobby Kennedy Jr's article at salon.com called "deadly immunity."

We tested our son's hair for toxins and were shocked to find he was toxic in things that we didn't even know about--antimony--one source were his flame resistant pjs! He was also toxic in aluminium, tin, etc.

We started educating ourselves. I read Dr. McCandless's book "children with starving brains" The gut brain connection in autism is so overlooked!

Pangborn and Baker's book "Autism Effective biomedical treatments" was so very helpful for us to understand the overall picture.

There is hope and you are your child's best advocate. Look up the DAN movt at danconference .com and at the autism research institute.

For our little guy there was a "cure" to the spinning and gut problems and the constipation. When we started healing his whole body instead of treating autism as a psychiatric disorder that was genetic in origin we found he started to emerge from his cocoon.

Thank you to all the parents who travelled this road and shared their stories so that we could help our son--without all of you our son would not be where he is today!

Good luck on your journey!

Autism is a multifactorial disease that is cause by a combination of toxin (vaccine and the environment) infectious agents (viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites) in genetically susceptible person. This genetic susceptibility is not the cause but all conditions have to come together.
As far as if there is a cure for autism, it is all depends how we define cure. There are children who have lost their diagnosis and are completely undistinguishable from neurotypical children with the exception of being far more intelligent on the average. I think that DOES mean they are cured. However, the specific treatment and response of each child varies and no one know which child is going to respond to what treatment and thus not all children will recover using one approach. But for many families improvements that are achieved are well worth the effort and some DO recover. There approaches are biochemical approaches that help the body eliminate these toxins. Currently the most successful protocols are DAN protocol, Dr Yasko's protocol and Classic or Sequential Homeopathy. Note that all the behavior modification approaches are very helpful especially in conjunction with biomedical treatments.

However, it is not possible to know which one is going to substantially help each child and many parent try them one at the time. My child was on DAN protocol with some improvements, then on Dr Yasko’s with far better result. He continues to improve with Dr. Yasko’s protocol, and currently we are also trying Sequential Homeopathy in conjunction as well.

no

There is currently no "cure" for autism. I know that it is devastating for parents when their child has autism. There is research being done all over the world for this condition, but as of yet, there is no cure & anyone that tries to tell you that there is, is just trying to take advantage of the fact that desperate parents will try ANYTHING to help their children. These guys have no scruples & I often wonder how they can sleep at night.

However there are lots of things that she can do- starting with heavy metal testing (usually from a hair sample), and some dietary changes. If it is established that she has some heavy metal toxicity, then she would need to consult with a DAN! (Defeat Autism Now) doctor about ways to rid her system of the toxins.

Yes. There are over 4000 children who have recovered from Autism. They use the term, "recovered", because they need to continue to take their supplements and medication to remain neurotypical, but their brains now function as they should and they act just like "normal" people.

Autism results when environmental toxins are exposed to a child who is genetically sensitive to these insults. There are some genetic traits common in Autistic people. Most have genetic mutations somewhere in their methylation cycle that make them unable to fight off viruses (such as those in vaccinations) and create enough glutathione to filter out metals. We are surrounded by environmental toxins. Mercury is in the air and the water and even in those "green" lightbulbs. Aluminum is in many over the counter vitamins and supplements, heartburn medication, and cookware. When the pharmaceutical companies removed the mercury presevative from vaccines they replaced it with aluminum, and aluminum is even more toxic than mercury.

The genetic mutations can be bypassed by certain supplements. Using these supplements to get the methylation cycle working again allows the body to fight off viruses and to filter metals out.

Another piece of the Autism puzzle is intestinal inflammation. The intestines and the brain are very closely linked. When something causes the intestines to become inflamed, the brain is often inflamed too. Many children benefit from being in a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, while others respond well to medicines and supplements designed to reduce gut inflammation.

Fixing the gut and repairing the methylation cycle are critical for recovery from Autism. Once these things are accomplished, the children can go on to live normal lives without any signs of being "Autistic".

Yes, there is. There was a "cause." There is nothing genetic about the "cause." Genes are altered and damaged by environmental toxins and viruses. The past twenty years has seen an extreme upsurge in toxic chemicals -- even in vaccines. Since the vaccine schedule has also multiplied, one can conclude that this is one of the culprits. Therefore, detoxing the body of these toxic chemicals would surely (and does) recover persons with an autism diagnosis. Science will also determine in the future that many of the other "behavioral" disorders like OCD, ODD, ADD, ADHD, etc. are likewise a result of these toxic insults.

Yes I do. But I don't like the word "cured". I believe mercury via thimersol in vaccines, enviromental issues, and genetics all play a part in the cause.
I think I will be happy to have both of my daughters in "remission" from Thimersol-Induced Autism. With biomedical intervention (chelation, vitamins, and minerals...among other things) they have already come a long way.

Autism is treatable, and many children pursuing biomedical treatments are making remarkable progress. There may be lack of consensus on what triggers/causes autism, but there is some evidence through laboratory tests that these children show detoxification problems, oxidative stress, dysfunction of the immune system, intestinal problems, inflammation etc.

Here are some steps to consider treatment:
- Clean up the environment of toxins, eat/feed organic, no chemical additives, and research vaccines if you have shots left. ("What your doctor may not tell you about childhood vaccinations" by Stephanie Cave, MD is a good place to start). Whether or not vaccines trigger autism, they may worsen the case where the childs immune system is not performing well.
- "Children with starving brains" by Jacqueline McCandless, MD and "Healing the new childhood epidemics: autism..." by Kenneth Bock et al, are good books to describe the principles of treatment.
- Read the material on "Autism Research Institute", and visit the site for DAN conferences http://www.danconference.com - this site features several talks by prominent physicians and researchers working on this problem (it is free).
- Join one of the parent support groups or yahoo groups to find a good DAN doctor or someone who practices an integrative approach to treating autism with diets, supplements etc according to the above books.

This is based on my experience only, does not constitute medical advice, and you need to work with a qualified professional to oversee your child's treatment
Good luck for your outcome,
Pramila

If there was then they would have it. However, there are many ways to manage autism. It also depends on the degree, some persons with Autism are high functioning, they have the ability to learn, work etc...however they are incapable of socializing. Then there are severe cases, which are usually generally associated with mental retardation. Hopefully they will be able to find a cure, prior to the child being born. However, just like downs, and mental retardation it is something that is taken place prior to being born.
