Chances are that he doesn't actually want to be friends with you.

If you broke up with him, he said it to maintain contact with you so he can try to win you back.

If he broke up with you, he said it so he didn't have to feel like such a bad guy for breaking up with you.

If he still wants to be friends with you then it shows that he cares about you, just not in a 'more than friends' way. Maybe you're upset or angry at him for dumping you, but that doesn't make him a bad person unless he went about it in a nasty way. Give it a go, and just take things as they come. You don't have to be best friends, but politeness costs nothing, right?

It would depend. If the guy and I just simply didn't work out, but broke up on good terms and I was able (emotionally) to remain friends with him, I would.

If you are still too hurt to even be around the guy without wanting to work things out then just let him know that you are unable, at this time, to see him as a friend. If you want to be friends with him after you've sorted out your feelings and got over the break up then let him know that too.

It all depends on how long you were going out with him. Like if you were going out with him for a while, would you be happy just to be his friend? I suppose its better to have an ex in your life as a friend than not have them in your life at all..but if you become his friend and you still clearly fancy/love him then your friendship is not going to work out because you will still be hanging on to him hoping that one day he will go out with you again. Being friends with an ex is tricky..it just all the depends on how strong you are and how you really feel about him.

It would depend. If he dumped me and we were good friends too...then I would more than likely continue the friendship...if I could not deal with just being friends, then I would not continue a friendship. I would also not continue one if I was still in love with this person as seeing him with others with still being in love would not allow the friendship.
So it all depends on how you feel about this person and if you are able to be just friends with him.

be cool...

honey sry to tell you this but break up friends never work out unless oyu r completly over ouy . trust me im going through the same thing they will just lead you on . most of the tym they r just trying to keep you around incase he cant find sumone else and is sick of not having sumone to call his. like i said sry but thats the sad truth. but hey if your over him there isnt a problem. dont b a total ***** to him though . if ur not completly over him there is nothing wrong with telling him " mabe we can be friends when it doesnt hurt so much" trust me if you become friends before its stopped hurting u r setting urself up for a world of hurt .

I'd tell him that I need time to heal and that I'll let him know when I'm ready to be friends. If you want to be friends with him fine, but chances are he's just saying that so that you'll feel better about it.

that depends on what grounds he dumped you for.. if he dumped you because he's Leaving for the states after graduation or something and doesn't want to hurt you when he Leaves, then that's crap!

If I still had the hots for him, I couldn't be his friend. That would be too painful. I'd tell him that I can't be his friend.
