Getting a good start is a direct result of force application Your first step needs explosive power on the push out of the blocks so it should be your most powerful leg.
Position in the blocks should be:I am not going to go on about every aspect of the starting blocks
toes should be in contact with the track and the balls of the foot should be planted against the pedals of the block. Your thumbs should be directly under your shoulders.shoulders should be directly over or slightly behind the hands, to keep the hips from moving forward and upward on the set command. The rear knee should be in contact with the ground.focus on driving the power arm up as soon as the gun goes off. This will help you drive through your power leg.

A right handed person generally feels more comfortable
with their left leg forward and thrust their left arm out during that first explosive step. I don't know if there is any correct method,
perhaps it's just what feels more natural for you.
As far as which is your most powerful leg: When you kick a football, which leg remains planted? That one is your most powerful. Important to know for long jumpers; not sure how important it is for sprint start.

Just to expand on the other answers, usually you want your best foot in the rear, because you are taking the first step with your best (more powerful) foot and leg. It needs to be what is most comfortable to you. Try diferent spacing and different lead legs. The rule book is just a guide and not necessarily what works best for you.

The stronger leg needs to be in the back to give you a good start and push you off.

Track it power in back but i get my explosion from power in front now I'm going 2 warn u if your legs are very powerful be careful i mite come out faster then u think and next thing u no you dead sucking for air. so try the 40m stance used in football but once u come out there no turning back. i bet you'll win the race if you master that front leg.
