I met an officer in the US navy a little more than a month ago, we instantly clicked and have been going out to dinner a lot, the movies, and we recently went on a day vacation to the mountains...he asked me to be his girlfriend and i said yes.

This all is wonderful but he is being transferred from his base here in New York in july, and he has no clue where they are putting him next... Ive fallen in love with him too.Should i make the most of the time we have, and keep the memories, or should i cut everything so neither of us get too hurt?

Jenny I would make the most of the time you have together. Don't stop seeing him now just because he's leaving. It's not going to hurt any less now than it will in July - so you might as well just enjoy him while you have him. And you know, just as he is being moved from New York, he could be moved back there also. Or possibly you can maintain a long distance relationship for a bit - and see him on furlows, etc. It will be hard but if you love him that's what you will have to do. Good luck.

This all depends on how you are going to be able to handle this situation when he is on another base, or perhaps even in Iraq.

It takes a very special commitment and trust to be in a relationship like this one and only you know for sure if you are mature enough to handle it.

There are many service men/women serving our country overseas and are married and/or in a committed relationship and the one thing the men/women servicing our country need to know the ones left behind are being faithful to them.

If you can't do this, then its better to end it now so YOU don't hurt him while he is away.

Have as much fun with him as possible. You never know he might end up back in New York. And if nothing else ever comes of it you will still have your great memories. I think you will have bigger regrets if you sever ties now than if you just go with it and see what happens.

i suggest you spend as much time as possible together.
he asked you to be his girlfriend so obviously wants something from this.
obviously long term relationships are difficult but they can work out.
just try not to make it too serious at the moment and if you're meant to be together then eventually you will be!
good luck
xx
my boyfriend told me a few months ago that he wants to go abroad for a year, im absolutely devastated, but im trying my hardest not to think about it althoughit hurts so much.
but i just have to keep telling myself that if we're meant to be then we will be together in the future.
